On the local news right now......a former military man was collecting money for Wounded Warriors outside of a local Wal-Mart...... Well guess what.....he was pocketing all of the collected money and using it for he and his family.......he will be serving time for doing this. He has been doing this for quite some time, and this time he got caught..... He has been in court for this on numerous occasions and will be going before a Judge in St. Louis County within the next few days......

This is so wrong.......

Yes since our Government will not take care of them like they should.

I have to admit I am skeptical of where the money goes....I change the channel when all those sappy commercials come on....they are more of a turn off then turn on....wish they delivered those messages differently.....

I do donate to a couple of organizations...in the form of monies....also clothing and household goods to a poor church in the neighborhood....just so you don't think I am cold hearted...lol

I have also donated very nice clothing to what most of us call nursing homes where the residents don't have much and don't have anyone buying clothing for them. The institutions are so appreciative of these donations.

You can give what you want - and you can also do your research and find out what percentage of the funds go toward the mission of the organization.

Some organizations are very efficient - don't paint all with the same brush. Do your research.

Funny someone should mention this as I just read a letter to the editor in our newspaper citing some examples and wondering if they all use the same ad agency.

Let me start off by saying that my husband and I give to many charities. I for one am very tired of these ads for the $19/month donations. I know they need money, but how much is really going to the animals and wounded warriors...especially when they are sending you a t-shirt or the like?

Pathetic scams everyone. So sad they waste the exorbitant amount of advertising and promotional money that could be put to better use.

Charity Navigator's site will give information on financials, such as advertising expenses, admin costs (salaries).

Lately I've gotten several requests by mail that contain real coins. If they're sending me their nickel, they don't need mine. I've actually written to the CEOs of these charities complaining about this marketing angle and returning the coin. No responses.

These are large, well recognized charities to which I've donated in the past. Not to this campaign, though
