It is related to the topic regarding R.I.P. It's a libation ritual for a person that has died.
Libation = The tradition of pouring some drink, usually alcoholic, on the ground as a sort of offering. Sometimes for the gods, sometimes to the dead. This trope is mostly about doing it in memory of dead friends. Traditionally, one pours on the ground before drinking oneself.

I have to believe this great man saved thousands of lives from the time he first introduced his maneuver to the public. Over the years I have heard and read many news stories how friends saved their friend with this maneuver.
Condolences to his family members and may he Rest in Peace.

Tragic @MalteseMomma and I'm so sorry for your loss. I have never tried the maneuver and would be terrified to do so.

So sorry to hear his of his death. Dr. Heimlich as many have posted indeed saved many lives including the life of a woman in the nursing home where he lived. The article stated that the woman started to choke and the doctor got up and performed his maneuver to save her life. He will be remembered for decades to come. May he rest in peace.

He was a long-time vegetarian!
It would be ironic if he died by choking on something,
but at the end, he died of a heart attack.
I believe he was in the hospital for a couple days before
passing at the ripe old age of 96.
