I have several reading apps on my Ipad and Kindle Fire. I use the Fire most of the time when I download books.
Besides Libby, I also use Hoopla to borrow books. And looking at my phone, I see I have B&N Nook app. Surprising what you find when you take the time to look!
With Amazon Prime, I've been able to download books at no cost and return them when finished. I have purchased some books, but only when they are at low pricing; or have special meaning to me.
I think you will be happy with your Kindle. When I used to chaperone high school trips, I would load a few books in my tablet for those long bus rides. Better than carrying around books!
Ask your librarian. Sometimes there are in house classes for learning how to use the devices.
Enjoy!

As an avid reader as well, I was never sure I'd like an ebook, but I'm now into my fourth kindle and update every few years just to see what new. Have two, one lives at home and one lives in my purse. The BEST feature, for me , is being able to go to the "store" ( on your library page, where your titles are, press the little shopping cart, and then type in any book you are interested in) and you can download a sample to see if you like it. The samples are usually quite long so you can get a good idea if it's for you. If I want to waitlist it at the library later or maybe purchase later, you can add it to your "shopping list" and then always can review your lists when you are ready for a new book. It's a great feature. Over the years, kindle has changed their styles and added, discarded various features. The first one came with a keyboard. Some additions have been good; some I think have made it more complicated then need be, but I truly love the ability have any book, any time they are available, which is almost always. I also usually have a hard copy book going as well and the "plethora" of choices is wonderful. Enjoy! Also, Kindle comes with a user guide already installed, so when you are ready, you can browse at will and find all the features that would have seemed overwhelming when you weren't ready for them at first.

this is the one I just bought although mine didn't come with a cover. I might get a cover later.
The how-to tips on the device are helping me. I am learning something every time I use it. Already noticing how a reading session makes no dent in the battery charge, whereason my tablet was being depleted fast when I used it to read.

@MariotaMurielle - I'm just seeing your thread!
I'm a "Nook Girl" myself, only because my husband and children gave me one as a gift. I think they were tired of my saying to anyone who would listen how these would NEVER replace books! LOL!
But now I really like mine.
Every Friday Nook has a "Free Friday" book. I think you can get the same thing on Amazon. @Stargazer77 posts them on the Book Club forum here. They have all genres, although sometimes they seem to be stuck in one! But it has given me a chance to read books I might not get for myself otherwise.
Enjoy your Kindle!

I love my Kindle and have had them for many years....ever since they first came out! What I love about them is the fact that I can carry a huge library of books all on one small lightweight device.
My Kindle has a back light which I can adjust the brightness of the screen and size of the font. It's designed for reading in a way that a tablet or laptop is not. I have both an Ipad and Macbook Air and love them both but not for reading a novel.
I find my kindle much easier on my eyes for reading. It's also great for outdoors. I bring mine when I go to the beach. There is no glare on the screen with e-ink which mimics a printed page.
It also has a built in dictionary. If you want to see the definition of a word, you just hold your finger on it and the definition pops up.
I find that there are some definite drawbacks. It's not so great for books that have a lot of drawings or pictures in color, you can't easily flip pages the way you can with a paper book which is good for a cook book for example but I love it for reading a good story!
I used to load new books on mine when I went to visit my mother in Florida when she was alive. It's great to take on vacation if you are the type who needs something to read all of the time.
I tend to buy my books on Amazon. They also have a plan for borrowing so many books at a time which is called Kindle unlimited for $12.00 a month. You can also download or borrow books from your local library which I have not done but it is worth looking into.
