A book called John Dollar by Marianne Wiggens.

I read this years ago, but I still think of it now and then.  It takes place just after WW1 in Burma..  A young widow begins her career as a teacher to wealthy students. She meets a young sailor named John Dollar.  They quickly become a passionate pair.  A three day trip to a near by island becomes a trip to ******.  Thanks to an earthquake and Tsunami. Here the book, which starts out a gentile lover story suddenly makes a sharp turn in the plot.  And heads on to a totally different direction.  As in Lord of The  Flies.  But with young girls instead of boys. The plot that ensues is not for faint of heart.  I mean in.  It's very  graphic in horror, that includes murders and "C" word as in dining on human food.  With sweet young girls. You've been warned.
