@sunala I have read The Bookshop on the Corner and have The Lottery, My Mrs. Brown and The Tumbling Turner Sisters on my shelves waiting to be read. I will definitely check out the rest of your list. Thank you so much for the suggestions. Happy reading to all!

@abbalulu- Oh I'm so happy you have those books on your shelves! I can't say you will love them as much as I did, but I hope you do!!! Please keep in touch.

The Dollhouse by Fiona Davis

Don't You Cry  by Mary Kubica

@lovescats Give me a Mary Kubica book anytime!

Our book club is reading The Dollhouse for our September meeting.

Fiona Davis also has another book about the Dakota in NYC.  I think The Address is the title of that one.

Re: What are You Reading? ~ AUGUST 2017

Finished Elizabeth Strout's "Anything is Possible."  I loved it.  Not as much as "Olive Kitteridge," but then that's one of my favorite books in the world (and loved the HBO miniseries too).

Soon as I finished "Anything is Possible" I re-read "My Name is Lucy Barton" and was so glad I did.  "Lucy" was better the second time and "Anything is Possible" fills in most of the blanks and beautifully expands characters her mother mentions, quite deliberately, in passing.

After that I started Liane Moriarty's "Three Wishes."

Re: What are You Reading? ~ AUGUST 2017

I am finishing up the All Souls trilogy (Deborah Harkness) with The Book of Life.  Have enjoyed this trilogy so much, and am not disappointed so far in this last book.

Also started Down a Dark Road by Linda Castillo.  I love her books, but this one has been overshadowed by the trilogy. Have Use of Force  (Brad Thor) waiting in the wings.

[ Edited ]

I finished reading (audio download) The Warmth of Other Suns:  The Epic Story of America's Great Migration. (Isabel Wilkerson).  I listened every chance I had.  It was hard to turn off.  I wish it was required reading in high school.

Thank you to the poster (I wish I could remember who it was...on another board?) who mentioned it.  I won't forget it.

The Lottery is one of my favorite books!  I have read a few others on your  list (The Tumbling Turner Sisters, My Mrs Brown and The Bookshop on the Corner).  I will have to check out the others.

I haven't read the book but to me Andie MacDowell and Cameron Mathison  don't seem like they would be a couple.  Who would you have cast?

Well, that's not really it.You have to have read the books. The thing is, Fr. Tim was somewhere in his sixties, short, not young and tall as cast. And Andie MacDowell, well I don't like her, that's all. And not how I pictured Cynthia at all. I've read all the books, and I know readers wouldn't agree with this casting. The town characters are very quirky, many being senior citizens, so I hope they don't mess that up. Dooley looks ok (pictured).

I agree that the casting seems wrong.  I've always pictured Cynthia looking a bit like Jan Karon in this photo.

I don't know why they would do that with the Mitford series.  Same thing with Agatha Raisin.  What these people look like is important to the world the authors create!
