@GibbyP, you are SAGAL?  Awful that you had to change your name.  I will have to watch you under GibbyP as we like many of the same reads!  LM

Re: What Are You Reading --- September 2015

Just started "Still Alice" by Lisa Genova. I waited a long time on the library wait list for this one. Hope I'm not disappointed. "Broken Promise" by Linwood Barclay is next. I've enjoyed all of his books.

I finished "Still Alice" in less than a day. I think I was bawling through most of it. It was very well written. It really hit home with me because my Aunt passed away from Alzheimer's a few years ago. It is a horrible disease...

@Judaline, where else would you find a book with a talking duck that has arguably been the most favored character of the series?  Hopefully Rosa is immortal.  LM

AKA SAGal I just finished A HUNDRED SUMMERS by Beatriz Williams.  I enjoyed it very much. It's not one of the best books I've ever read but it was quite enjoyable.  I'm looking forward to her other books - have them on hold at the library.  Enjoy your day - fall is around the corner (well I live in Texas so I guess that's wishful thinking!!)

Gibby, any chance you can put "formerly SAGal" in your signature?  We all have different tastes and I think we get a sense of who likes what we like, and I always look for your posts.  Thanks if you can or even if you can't LOL.

I just finished Tiny Little Thing by Beatriz Williams and really enjoyed it.  It is the 3rd book in a series of 4.  I didn't like it quite as much as the other 2 but still a good read, imo.  I intend to read the last when it comes out.

Just started Tiny Little Thing; haven't read enough to form an opinion.

Finished Amy Stewart's Girl Waits with Gun.  I think this book was one of Oprah's recommendations.  It was Little Women meets early women's rights... just ok.

Then next I read what I consider to be the Best Book of 2015, so far anyway and I doubt anything else will top it.  The Secret Wisdom of the Earth, the debut novel by Christopher Scotton.  Appalachia, Strip Mining and a realtionship between a man (Pops) and his grandson that you won't want to miss.

I've read a handful of others too since my last post.  Some better than others.  I'll post a short list later...

I also read THE SECRET WISDOM OF THE EARTH - really liked it and it was different - main characters being male - so used to female main characters!

Finished  "Kitchens of the Great Midwest" by J. Ryan Stradal.  I don't think it's worth the money to buy it but I enjoyed it.  There are a lot of characters in the book and many of them unlike anyone I've ever known, some of them not likeable, others rootable, and it reads like short stories but it all comes together in a very interesting way at the end.  And the recipes are yum.

Now I'm starting "A Man Called Ove" by Frederich Bachman, a bestseller by one of Sweden's beloved writers, translated into English.  The main character is a cranky old man, and somehow a  young family that moves next door to him changes his life.  It looks great and I'm off to tuck into it now.

A MAN CALLED OVE - on my to-read list!

I don't know how to do that - can you tell me how?  I added it as a TAG but obviously that wasn't the right way to do it!  I'm on my iPad - maybe I need to log onto my computer - seems there are more options there.
