Re: What Are You Reading --- September 2015

I recommend Kiskadee of Death by Jan Dunlap.  This is the newest book in her Bob White Birder Murder Mystery series.  Bob White and his wife Luce escape a cold Minnesota winter and take a birding trip to south Texas.  They find the body of a murder victim on their first birding trip and the rest of the book is a great combination of mystery-solving and bird watching.  Dunlap has a breezy, funny, light, writing style that is easy to read.  The characters are charming.  Bird watchers will love the descriptions of the many birding hotspots of south Texas.  I recommend the entire series, but this one can be enjoyed without having read the others.

@SAGal, I just started this one.  Thanks for your recommendation.  So far so good!  LM

Hi Lilysmom!

let me know what you think about this one - it sounded soooo good but I'm into it about 100 pages and about to PTB - it's kind of boring - or it could be I'm reading the right book at the wrong time -

Re: What Are You Reading --- September 2015

I finished Sue Grafton's X--what a wonderful book! As I posted earlier, I love that Kinsey is truly back: the whole story is told through her voice.

I also want to point out that this book can be appreciated on its own--the reader doesn't need to read previous books in the alphabet series. (However, those books should be read eventually, for the sheer pleasure of it!)

If you love clever mysteries, it's time to give Grafton a try.

I'm still plodding my way through The Little Paris Bookshop (Nina George).   It's just not what I expected.

I was stuck for a while while reading this book, but I really loved how the novel ended.

Hang in there!

Hmmmmm.  I have had the Paris book on my coffee table for about two weeks now with only about 30 pages read.  I looked at it again this morning but went to another library book.  I will try again and see if it grabs me.  It did enough to check it out and bring it home.

@SAGal,  I read today a bit to take a break from garden cleanup.  I am at about page 120.  I was starting to think like you but then I saw a glimmer of a secret memory which motivates me to go.  Hang in there with me.  I think it is going to get better.

I also understand about reading the right book at the wrong time.  Just happened to me with Nightingale.  I have been hard to please lately.  I need a Wow book!  LM

Just finished Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh - very dark, great writing but soooo slow and the build up to the end offered zero satisfaction. Glad it came from my local library.

Starting Remember Me This Way by Sabine Durrant.

It happened to me with the latest Jan Karon. I've read and loved every minute of The Mitford Series. The father Tim series, especially the Ireland one, did nothing for me. Now this latest one-can't get into it. At all. I love Dooley but I'm just not interested. Am I done with this type book? Maybe. I need adventure now. Mystery. Spy stuff. I doubt I'll come back to Father Tim. It was great while it lasted, Tim, happy trails.

@Judaline, funny how that happens.  I haven't posted about some recent books that I read because I didn't really like them although they weren't all that bad.  I better get out of this reading funk because the colder weather is coming and I always read more once the gardens are cleaned up and winter is upon us.  LM

Re: What Are You Reading --- September 2015

I, too, am in a bit of a reading funk.  Maybe because two of my favorite authors, Kate Morton and Geraldine Brooks have books coming out in October and I feel like I am merely marking time with the Karin Fossum books I have been reading!

Kate Morton's book is Lake House.

Brooks' is The Secret Chord.

I have read and enjoyed all of the books these two ladies have written.

I just picked X up at library.  Starting it today.
