Re: ~WHAT ARE YOU READING?~ JUNE 2018

I am reading the Plain Fame series by Sarah Price.  This series is about a young Amish woman named Amanda who, while in NYC, is hit by the limo of a very famous international rapper (think Pitbull, because that is who the male character of the story is based on).  The storyline goes from Lititz, Pennsylvania (Amish Country) to states and countries, and it focuses on how Amanda adjusts to the outside world.

I like her books because I am learning much about the Amish, even though I have been around them from time-to-time because of where I have lived.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

Very interesting! I work with a man who used to live in Lititz, he worked for Hershey's.....I didn't realize it was Amish Country.Interesting!

I finished The Death of Mrs Westaway.  Minority opinion, I know, Meh.  (If Mrs Danvers were real, she would be turning over in her grave.)  I did actually like all the parts relating to the tarot cards.

@sunala, re Stephen King’s The Outsider, I find his writing style so readable.  I got about 10 pages in and thought ‘oh good, 650 pages of good writing’.  It must be an art.  LM

@Lilysmom  I always say don't go by my reviews.  They are usually not the majority opinion.   I think I'm a hard sell, especially on mysteries and thrillers.  Most of them seem so transparent to me.

I have The Outsider on waitlist.  I'm #8.  I'll be interested to read your review when you're finished.  I love good writing, too.

Re: ~WHAT ARE YOU READING?~ JUNE 2018

Finished Frederik Backman's "Us Against You."

But I'm still in that world.  What an incredible book.  I can't even start a review and I finished it late yesterday.  I'm still in a state of awe at what a fantastic, heartfelt, unsparing, talented, singular writer he is.  What a way with words.  What a way with people.  What a way with communities.  What a what a what a.what a what a --

...it's remarkable.

@smoky22, it’s a bit revealing and startling when you pick up a book and think ‘Thank God, a good writer!’  🤓

@Lilysmom, I'm not normally at a loss for words but I just wrote a review saying flat out I can't write a review that will do it justice.  Make sure you read "Beartown" first, take a little break or a long one (we waited, what, about a year for this book?  so I re-read a lot of "Beartown") and then go into "Us Against You."

Also:  For the person, and I'm sorry I can't remember who, who thought there will be more, it's listed (where? Goodreads?  my brain isn't functioning, I'm so in this book) as Beartown Book 2 of 2.  He's left it all on the page.  There's nothing left to be said.
