I just finished"Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye which USA reimagining of " Jane Eyre as a gutsy , heroic serial killer. Very gothic in the best sense. The next one is " The Summer Before the War" , by Helen Simonson about a small village in England and how the buildup to the First World War effects their lives. The characters are quirky and sometimes maddening, but always true .

Thanks for your recommendations, @QVCkitty1.  I just love Helen Simonson's first book "Major Pettigrew's Last Stand" so I am anxious to start this new one.
