Re: Time to re-read your favorites

Oh, I'm enjoying the responses to this thread! Mistress of Merlyn--I adored that book, I think I was in the 9th grade when I "discovered" Victoria Holt.

The Long Winter is my favorite Wilder book--I probably read that a dozen times.

And Barbara Pym--one of my all-time favorite authors. She only wrote a handful of books, but they're all worth reading and reading again. (She wrote a number of successful books, but all of a sudden a  publisher thought what she was doing was too dated, and let her go; essentially, she stopped writing. Curse that publisher!)

Another favorite of mine was mentioned: Atlas Shrugged. Brilliant!

These days, I don't do much re-reading, unless it's for a book club.

My TBR bookcases are filled with books waiting for a first read.

Mine is Huckleberry Finn. I find something new every time I read it.

Re: Time to re-read your favorites

When I was younger and thought I'd live forever, I used to reread books just because I liked them.

Now I don't reread books except for The Good Earth, which I've read just about once a year since I was in high school. Years ago my hubby bought me a first edition, which I treasure. It's kind of fragile so I'm careful with it, but I never ever get tired of reading it. I can open it to any page and I know where I am in the book, and what will happen next.

Re: Time to re-read your favorites

@chihuahuamom and @insomniac2 - I still have all the Victoria Holt books, and "MISTRESS OF MELLYN" is still my favorite.  That was my first "adult" mystery/suspense book as a teen.  I love her books and need to read them again.  I also have all her Jean Plaidy and Philippa Carr books.  As a teen, I once wrote her publisher with a question about her previous books issued under a different name, and she wrote me back herself!  It was just a short note answering my question, but she ended with "I am so glad that you like my books."  I was thrilled to hear from her personally, and still have that note!

Periodically, I get in the mood to read a certain author, and then I re-read all the books in their series.  I have done this with Sue Grafton, J. D. Robb, M. C. Beaton, J. A. Jance, Janet Evanovich, Laura Levine, Alexander McCall Smith, Nora Roberts, John Sandford, and Agatha Christie.  I own a lot of British history books, so one year I started with William the Conqueror and read chronologically about all the monarchies up to the present.

I have been in the mood lately to re-read all the Mary Higgins Clark books, so that will be my next project.

Re: Time to re-read your favorites

So many of my favorite authors were mentioned in this thread.  Thanks for the memories of Victoria Holt and Sidney Sheldon.  Loved them!

I have had a Kindle e-reader for 2-3 years and am reading more than I ever had.  Some days I can't wait to get back to my "story."  I am averaging two to three books a week now.

So many wonderful books, too little time.

Re: Time to re-read your favorites

Though I rarely reread books, you all have given me some great titles for new reads! Thank you, thank you. Great thread.
