I just finished "Beach Music".  What a story and such magnificent wriiting.  A few years back I read "South of Broad" and that was also excellent.  I hope to find some of his other novels to read.  They are truly a treasure to read.

@bargainsgirl You might enjoy Plantations by Dorothea Benton Frank!  It's also about a crazy family.  If I remember!  I read it a long time ago.

Conroy is an excellent writer, no doubt @bargainsgirl

Prince of Tides is another fine read from Conroy. I read the book and eventually saw the movie starring Barbra Streisand, Nick Nolte, Blythe Danner, and Kate Nelligan. No shortage of drama in this book. Happy Reading!

@bargainsgirl

Try "The Water is Wide," his memoir as a teacher in a 2-room schoolhouse. There's a movie also starring Jon Voight based on the book called "Conrack." Brings tears to my eyes.

@Sooner - One of my favorite authors! I love her stories about the Low Country. I grew up in Georgia and her books take me back to my summer days.

She passed away a few years ago. Her literary friends have written a  book that is a tribute to her.

 I had a chance to have lunch with her, sponsored by a book store. I think it was in the fall, and I was having a busy week, so I passed. It wasn't too long after that and she was gone. And I will always regret my choice.

@beach-mom WOW how fortunate!  I love her books, especially the earlier ones!  I have a collection of them!  I do miss new ones coming out.

@Sooner - I missed my chance, so I never met her. I wish I had decided to sign up and go. I miss her books too.

I knew Pat and he talked exactly like he wrote. When I started reading his books, I could tell exactly who the author was. He was quite a conversationalist. I've still not read all of his books yet but will some day. His wife, Cassandra King is also a favorite author. I don't believe she's written anything since he passed but always on the lookout for something from her.
