The Nook Free Friday selection for June 6th is Shades of Treason by Sandy Williams.

Lieutenant Ramie Ashdyn pledged her life to protect the Coalition, but when a secret operation turns bloody, she's charged with treason and the brutal executions of her teammates.
Commander Rhys "Rest in Peace" Rykus will make Ash talk. He's the man who's responsible for turning her into an elite soldier... and he's a man who isn't, never was, and never will be in love with the woman he trained. Or so he tells himself.
Ash wants nothing more than to clear her name and be the woman her former instructor wants her to be, but the enemy who killed her teammates did more than frame her for treason and murder: they telepathically silenced her mind, preventing her from saying anything that might point to the truth about what happened.
Now Ash is trapped and set to be executed, the truth dying with her. Unless she can prove her innocence. But taking that path could destroy Rykus and rip apart the Coalition she's sworn to preserve and protect...

A fierce seer whose warnings are repeatedly ignored, even by her own father.
An outcast wolf shifter who must decide where his loyalties lie.
An ambitious advisor who is desperate to gain power and influence, no matter the cost.
Saving their clan from a powerful Dark Spirit could cost them everything.
In the wake of King Cadfael's Shifter Purge, Bran has found himself driven from his home and being hunted for the shapeshifting gift he was born with. His desperation led him to swear his loyalty to a man who has vowed to see Cadfael brought to ruin, until a chance encounter with the king's daughter leaves Bran questioning his future. Seren saved his life years ago, and his memories of her, and of his old life, aren't so easily forgotten.
But there's more danger lurking in Blaidd than the clan's twisted king. Seren's abilities as a seer have shown her that a darkness is coming and that a dangerous Dark Spirit of the island, Fianna, has been woken. Fianna's fiery flames could bring the clan to the brink of destruction, but Seren continually finds her warnings ignored and her abilities belittled. She seeks allies in her father's court, including seeking aid from one of his youngest advisors, but even those allies might be unwilling to fully defy their tyrant king. Despite Cadfael's unwillingness to protect the clan from Fianna's flames, Seren has vowed to destroy the dangerous Spirit. But unbeknownst to her, Bran has sworn his loyalty to it.
When Bran is forced to choose between killing Seren or sparing her, will he turn away from the destructive Spirit he's given his soul to or will he plunge further into darkness, dooming them all? And can Seren save her people from destruction, even if Cadfael won't?

The Nook Free Friday selection for June 27th is Death and Dacquoise by Kat Bellemore.

Retirement isn't nearly as relaxing when people keep dying.
Retired sisters, Jo and Dottie Darby, never expected to find themselves taking over their sister's tacky souvenir store-slash-bakery in the small coastal town of Starlight Ridge. But after her untimely death and the reading of the will, here they were.
There were two problems with this.
One- The souvenir store was in a state that would give hoarders nightmares.
Two- Neither Jo nor Dottie knew how to bake.
It was a miracle that brought Autumn Davis into their lives, a young woman who had spent time learning to bake in Paris, France, but was now home due to an existential crisis. She was the answer to all their problems. Unfortunately, on the evening of their grand opening, a woman turns up dead on the beach, and all evidence points to Autumn and the dacquoise the woman had purchased earlier that evening.
Now, the Darby sisters need to clear Autumn's name, both for the sake of Autumn's future and the future of their seaside French patisserie.
Death and Dacquoise is the first book of the Seaside French Patisserie Mystery series. If you like small coastal towns, humorous retirees, and of course, murder, you'll love this cozy mystery series.
