Re: MARCH 2024 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I finished Danielle Steel's Silent Night in 2 days.  Hers are always a fast read for me.  It was very sad in places and not as much romance as some of her others.

My book club book this month is Drowning by TJ Newman.  It is the story of an airliner that ditches into the Pacific Ocean minutes after taking off from Honolulu.  Twelve people remain on the plane instead of evacuating.  The plane sinks to the bottom of the ocean and the story of their rescue is the plot of the book.  It is a tense book and several women in the book club could not finish it because of the intensity.  I recommend it, but it is not for everyone.

@sandy53

I absolutely could not read this. My biggest fear is drowning, my second fear which is problematic since I love to travel would be crashing into the ocean. This fear get's worse as I get older. My next trip which I will take next year will be International, which means crossing a large body of water. I will need to ask my doctor for some sort of anxiety medication, to make the trip.

I confess that I read the ending first to relieve my anxiety!  I hope your anti-anxiety medication helps with your trip.

The Ball At Versailles, by Danielle Steel;   Four girls one in California two in the New York City area and one from Dallas Texas all attend the required coming out in their respective cities and societies in 1958.

Then a few months later Paris France wants to extend and invitation to their own debut of young ladies to include 40 young women from the United States. These four women come together along with their families and the dysfunction and secrets that many families try to hide.

They have made a lasting impression on each other even when the young women return to the states.  Not to mention the impression they left on a few of the French men who were there as their escorts.  Who will make the next intended step after a coming out, which is down a wedding aisle?

Upside Down, by Danielle Steel;  Ardith has been the most glamorous and well known actress for decades.  Now at 62 the acting parts just do not exist as much for the mature woman.

Ardis lost her husband young and raised her daughter on her own who wanted nothing to do with the Hollywood lifestyle.  Studying and becoming a well known New York City plastic surgeon with the perfect life, albeit alone is fine with her.

Both women are not looking for a first or even a third love but sometimes life as a different plan than the one we make for ourselves.  Plus it can throw a twist or two in their including a lopsided age difference for both mother and daughter and their possible love.

The Maid by Nita Prose was wonderfully written and glad I read it.  Hope to read the sequel too.

Tonight I finished reading The Women by Kristin Hannah.  This one will stick with me for a long time.  The first half takes place in Vietnam where the main character is serving as an Army nurse.  The scenes are graphic and tense.  The second half is after she returns home.  Her struggles are disheartening.  She seems to hit bottom time after time.  I highly recommend this book, but it is not an easy read.
