Ian Rutledge Series - Anyone Reading

Ian Rutledge is the main character in a series of mysteries written by Charles Todd (it is a mother and son duo).

I finished the last one called A Divided Loyalty and it was really good.  The ending really took me by surprise.  The time is right after WWI and Ian is an inspector for Scotland Yard.

There are 22 books in the series.  You don't need to read all the books to enjoy it but it does help with the background of the characters.  I can't wait for the next one.

I, too, love this series. Not just for the characters, who are well drawn, but for the historical background of WWI.

If you like these, you may also like the Bess Crawford series about a nurse in WWI. Completely different, but just as well written.

Happy reading!

Re: Ian Rutledge Series - Anyone Reading

I have read a couple in the series.  I like the era and the setting.  I enjoy mysteries set "back in the day," before technology could solve everything with a blood test or DNA test.  The detective types went out and talked to people, got to know the families and the communities and the local issues, then by a process of elimination , using clues and COMMON SENSE, seemed to be able to solve the crime.

I have read this from the very first book.  Love this series and how the character has developed over the years.  Wonderful series!

I’ve read them all and am a big fan. The sister series they write in the first person - the Bess Crawford mysteries- are also good.
