I wish that someone would do a biography of Caroline Ingalls, mother of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Having read several books -- and not just the Little House series of novels -- my impression is that she was a very strong person but kept her feelings and demeanor within the accepted standards of her day, and usually went along with anythng her husband wanted.
But not always. There are a few instances where she told him NO quietly but firmly, I wish her daughter would have filled out her character more, and more vividly.
I've also learned that Laura and her daughter Rose were sometimes at odds, almost to the point where they would "disagree" like cats and dogs. That didn't happen much, though and I think they loved each other very much.
I wish she'd written more about Almanzo but of course these were novels about mostly her young life and Almanzo didn't show up till she was about 15 (and 10 years older than her which was never mentioned).

I saw a biography on American Masters on PBS about the Ingalls/Wilder family. They weren't what they were portrayed as on Little House. Also, I think Almanzo was sickly.

@PuppyLoverBob666 Are you familiar with the history chicks?
They did Laura Ingalls Wilder in Podcast #2. You might glean some tidbits about her parents and upbringing.

My impression of Almanzo was that he was a big strong man (I saw a few photographs of him when he was old and even then he was quite tall) untill both he and Laura had some... disease ...that there wasn't much treatment for. He eventually recovered but he was temporarily paralyzed in his hands and/or feet (you can read about it in a book "The First Four Years" and I don't have it at hand so I don't know if Laura wrote it). As I said, it took a while for him to recover completely but I don't think he was sickly after that. However, if you know more about this, I'd love to hear it.
I never watched the series because so much of it was fictionalized for televisiion.

@PuppyLoverBob666 It would be so helpful if you could put a word or two in the title that let's us know what the subject of the post is. ![]()
I am a booklover, so anything about books catches my eye. But it is disappointing when the subject isn't clear and you have to open it to find out.
