Has anyone read The Silent Companions?

The book is by Laura Purcell.  Very good reviews on Amazon and Good Reads.  Very creepy "ghost" story that is sent in the 1800's  Very much in the Shirley Jackson/Susan Hill type of horror.

I finally found out the story behind the image on the book.  Apparently starting in the 1600's there were "Silent Companions" Images of people painted on wood. Sometimes called Dummy Boards.  Much like a painting, but applied on a piece of wood about 3 to 6'feet tal and propped up.l.  Often wealthy families had silent companions propped up in nurseries.  Very bizarre.  I never heard of this.  Here is an image.  It's considered folk art.  Just one more creepy object in this book I'm reading.  Getting creepier and creepier.  Anyone ever hear of this?
