I would like some suggestions for new books. I just finished " Blue Sisters ", by Coco Mellors about a group of sisters in a family with addiction issues. I am not interested in true crime or any crime for that matter . I just like a good story, some romance would be nice, but not necessary. If you have any thoughts I would appreciate them. Sometimes I get in a book rut and it is nice to branch out, but again no violence please.

Re: Good Stories

[ Edited ]

@QVCkitty1 For a light fast read, Anything is Possible by Elizabeth Strout. For. a non-fiction read, Becoming Madam Secretary, the biography of Frances Perkins. (Forgot the author's name.) And for a somewhat more dense and serious read with a lot of drama,  The Overstory by Richard Power. A highly recommended book that I have on my TBR list is The Teagirl of  Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See. I agree with you about avoiding "violence" and have never understood the popularity of books about murder. Murder seems to be a popular theme of recommended books on this forum, so perhaps someone can explain the appeal of this genre?

@Q-Checker , Thank you! These sound like possibilities. I appreciate you taking the time to share. I read Olive Kitteridge so I will check out the book you mentioned.

@Q-Checker @QVCkitty1 , I am currently reading The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See.  I like her as an author.  I have read Lady Tan's Circle of Women and The Island of Sea Women also by Lisa See which I recommend.  I found The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane to be very slow going in the first half.  I am 80% finished and glad I stuck with it.  I liked the other two mentioned above better.

Another great book is Pachinko by Min Jin Lee.  It has been made into a series which is also very well done.  I recommend reading the book first.

Happy reading!

My favorite recently has been "The Women" by Kristen Hannah (one of my favorite authors these days).

Here are a few reads this year @QVCkitty1 with stories I enjoyed.

You Are Here by David Nicholls (fiction,UK travel, romance)

Long Island by Colm Toibin (fiction, Ireland, family)

Lulu Dean's Little Library of Banned Books by Kirsten Miller (humor, Southern, contemporary)

On the Elizabeth Strout bandwagon, I enjoyed Oh William! (contemporary, family, fiction). Still on the hold list for Strout's latest, Tell Me Everything.

Happy Reading!
