Finished Defending Jacob last night!!!!

It was really really good, not sure if I liked the ending though.......Do you think he was guilty? What do you think about the mother did at the end? I just am not sure how I fell yet.....Part of me says Yes he was guilty of them both, but then again, he also seemed like a little lost kid, and maybe he was just a victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.......It was just sad all the way around! Based on liking this book so much, I ordered two other of his to read........

@CANDLEQUEEN, thanks for the reply. I get the mixed feelings at the end of the book.

Have you read We Need to talk About Kevin?  Check it out on Goodreads. I tried to copy the description without success.  It is also thought provoking, not a feel good boo either.  LM

Based on recommendations from here, I took both of those books out from the library today. I hope to like them both as they sound like 19 Minutes from Jodi Piccoult. That book was a favorite of mine!

@CANDLEQUEEN I read this when it first came out. I know what you mean about the ending. It was definitely up in the air whether or not he was guilty. I tend to think he was. I'm not sure about the mother. Did she go off the deep end? The book was thought-provoking, but now, in retrospect I'm not sure I really liked it.

I tend to think he was guilty too. Yes, I think the mom just went off the deep end, especially when they were in Jamaica, and everything was going along really good, and then that girl ended up missing and then found dead, I thought then yep he's guilty, he didn't seem to be too upset about her death either......I think the mom just felt like I can't go on living knowing my son is a monster, and she snapped......I did like it, it held my interest all the way through, and it really makes you think.......I am going to give it to my sister to read, and see what she thinks........

Re: Finished Defending Jacob last night!!!!

I have to agree!! After reading the reviews, I got the book from the library and finished it last night. I'm not certain if I liked it either. The ending came as a shock and I was disappointed with the Mom's actions.  I suppose the poiint of a good book is to get you thinking but I just have too many unanswered questions. I don't believe in a murder gene, that's just too disturbing.

Yea, I don't think I believe in a murder gene either, but something was definitely wrong with Jacob, if he was indeed guilty...I think his mother definitely believed in the gene, and thought I will put this kid out of his misery before he can harm anyone else...That's just my thoughts on it-but a good read for sure!

Re: Finished Defending Jacob last night!!!!

@CANDLEQUEEN. I'm so glad you feel the same way I do! I hated the ending! Yes, I think he was guilty! I think he was both genetically predisposed and the product of bad parenting!

I find it a little unreal that the wife would be so upset for so long about the husband's father! Get mad for a while, but I think it went too far! I also find it unrealistic how the parents reacted to the son's probable guilt! I think if it were me, I'd be less sure of my ds innocence!

Never underestimate the power of kindness.
