Re: DECEMBER 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

@icezeus  thanks for this month's thread. Smiley Happy

The Wishing Bridge, by Viola Shipman, did not disappoint.  It was magical and sweet. It highlighted another Michigan town I'd like to visit, Frankenmuth.   He should be on the Michigan tourism board. lol  The story featured a fictionalized version  of a real store in Frankenmuth called Bronners Christmas store.  I've ordered from them MANY times and have NEVER been disappointed.

Susan Wiggs', The Twelve Dogs of Christmas, was adorable, cute, and perfect for this time of year. I'm a sucker for a story about dogs.

Next up is Winter Road by Joanne DeMaio.

Wishing all of you happy holidays and health in 2024.

Finished my 2nd book by Fiona Davis -- The Magnolia Palace.  I liked it but not as much as The Masterpiece.  All of her books are set in NY and looking forward to reading more of hers in the future.

I am 3/4's through Here Lies Daniel Tate by Cristin Terrill.  It's about a boy who shows up claiming to be the missing child of a wealthy family.  He is taken in and discovers all is not as it seems.

I will review when finished.

Update:

Finished.  Ok, not great.  Would not recommend.

Re: DECEMBER 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

"Such a Good Wife." by Seraphina Nova Glass.

Mel is a devoted wife and partner to her husband, Collin, but there is a dark side. She begins an affair with a  successful local author, Luke. Mel'slife unravels when Luke is found dead. She is visited by the police, who consider her a person of interest. She has to try to preserve her marriage and prove to police that she's not involved in Luke's death.

Mel is not a likeable person, and I felt no empathy for her problems which she brought on herself. She is sneaky and devious.

I liked the descriptions of her children and husband, who I feel she didn't deserve. Overall, the book was ineresting despite such an unsavory main character. The ending was a surprise to me. I would give the book three stars.

Re: DECEMBER 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

The Manor House, by Gilly Macmillian.

Childhood sweethearts who as man & wife now experience what we all have dreamed of at one time or another, the big Lottery win.  Millions and Millions.

Nicole and Tom build their dream house made of glass which is also a "Smart" home.  Everything done for you, such as on waking say Blinds Up.

The land once belonged to a woman still living in the old Manor House close by.  A young couple live there as well, a yoga teacher and an inspiring author.

No one and I mean no one in this book is who they seem.  We have an accident or possible murder that leads to another and another.  Which persons are in cahoots with the other involving these killings.

Re: DECEMBER 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I just started a new book BEYOND THAT, THE SEA BY Laura Spence-Ash.   It's about a British couple during WWII who send their eleven year old daughter to live in America so that she can be safe during the war.  The book spans about 25 years and so far and I am not that far into it, it is good,  It bounces between characters but they are easy to follow.
