Anyone read books by Karen Robards of Patricia Cornwell? Thoughts?

Just wondered what people's thoughts were on these 2 authors. I've heard of them but have never read anything by them.  If you liked them, do you have to read their books in order of when they were written (like Stuart Wood's)?  Thanks!

Yes, I have read several books by Patricia Cornwell. I am currently on number 13 of a  series  called "Kay Scarpetta". If you are going to read these, start from the beginning. The books will lay a good foundation for you as several of the characters are recurring throughout series.

I have enjoyed some of the books more than others, but overall I would recommend her.

The early Scarpetta books are good but I lost interest as the series went along.

I know I've read a few Robards' books but I don't remember specifics.

I read a few of Cornwell's books.  Agree with previous poster--they got kind of repetitive.  And the only series of books I've read in order are Grafton's A to Z series.

I read a few Patricia Cornwell years ago and wasn't my type of book.  I love mysteries but don't really want to read about all the gorey details of murders, etc.

Love the Scarpetta series.  Reading them in order.  Just ready to start "Trace".  Just finished "Blowfly" and can't wait to see where we go from there!

I read a couple of the Scarpetta series then I read a Jodi Picoult novel.  Have only read 2 novels by her so far.  She was a recommendation I found here earlier in the year....thanks!

I have two weird reading quirks, one is that I must read any series in order, the second one is that I cannot read them back to back or I become bored with the writing of the series. I finished Blow Fly last year and should be moving on to Trace soon. I currently have five books home from the library, so perhaps on my next request I will pick that one up.

I have not read Robards.  Yes, I have read Cornwell.  Her later books just got very "dark" and pessimistic.  I thought her first few books were the best.  I have not read one in a few years.

I agree.Cornwell was my fav a one time.Earlier ones were best.Of course there were a couple really different ones that didnt have Kay.Those were really out there.
Her latest to me are very technical and get in the way of the story.Like I know Lucy has a Bell helicopter but I dont need the mechanical workings of it or all the computer knowledge in one particular book.
Take care & enjoy

Re: Anyone read books by Karen Robards of Patricia Cornwell? Thoughts?

I really enjoyed the early Kay Scarpetta books.  But she really lost me with her niece and all her niece's superpowers.  The one that did it for me was when they were in a helicopter fighting the bad guys.  Might have been From Potters Field, it's been a while since I read any of her books.  I tried to hang in there with her books, but they became too outlandish for me, compared to how they were in the beginning.
