For sci fi fans: Dan Simmons' "Hyperion" series are some of the best books I've ever read. The books are in order-Hyperion; The Fall of Hyperion; Endymion and The Rise of Endymion. It's best to read in order, otherwise it could be confusing.

The books have everything: space ships, time travel, alien worlds, alien beings, monsters, resurrection, religion, agnostics, romance, philosophy, and more. They're not recent, and are quite long, but worthwhile. They take the reader to new worlds and adventures. Highly recommended for sci fi fans.

Re: Any Science Fiction Fans?

Oh, I am glad to see someone talking about science fiction.  There was a time when I read a lot of it, and was even a member of the Science Fiction Book Club.  Seemed like there was just nothing interesting in mainstream fiction and all the creativity was in the sf field.  One of my favorites was Melissa Scott's "Dreamships" -- those characters are with me yet.

Interestingly, I just picked up the hardbacks of the "Hyperion" series at our library's most recent book sale.  I had never read them so now they're in my "TO READ" stack.

Thanks for starting this thread.

I never read Melissa Scott; I'll have to check out her writing. I'm always looking for new additions to my Kindle, and "Dreamships" looks interesting.

I loved The Last Hour of Gann, by R. Lee Smith.  It's a massive book, though.

DH is z huge fan and he's gradually dragging me along.  He's big on the classics, Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, anything by Harlan Ellison.  Plus contemporsry authors like Scalzi, Jim Butcher, Weir and David Weber.
