Spring Cleaning

On the train ride back to New York from taping an Isaac Mizrahi early morning show this week I read an amazing article.. It was all about Spring Cleaning your closet – and I was so inspired! They had so many amazing tips I am taking to heart as I prep my closet for spring and summer this year.

The best plan for a thorough spring cleaning is to start now before you buy a lot of your spring and summer wardrobe. By seeing what you have, it puts you in the mindset to shop for what you need (or don’t need) for the warmer months.

First, analyze your basics. This would be your solid colors; your neutral tops; as well as pants, skirts, and basic dresses. Is anything looking a little worn? Or are there items you know for a fact that you didn’t wear last year? Set those aside and consider donating them to Goodwill or the Salvation Army.

Next, look at what you have that would be considered your ‘fun’ or ‘trendy’ pieces. Do you already own a lot of this season’s hot color, Tangerine? How about polka dots? Those are in too! By taking stock of all of the great pieces you already own, you’ll be less likely to impulse buy when you are doing your shopping!

Finally, based on your closet cleaning, make a list of basics you need, and some wardrobe updates you’d like to make. That way, you have a very clear idea in your head of what to look out for!

If I’m going to go for a basic, I like to find something that fits and then buy it in multiple colors. Isaac’s Crewneck Tee A210206 is a favorite of mine. I love the Bright White, and the Peony Pink is something that punches up all of my spring brights.

And because I’m all about updating my basics this season, how about the cute V Neck dress A221257 in Firecracker Red – totally fitting in with the hot colors for spring?

A216240 – I love that I can even call this Animal Print Tunic a ‘basic’ because animal print is totally the new black. I am personally a fan of the Blue Moon. It could be a work top, a beach cover up, a chilled-out look with jeans or leggings, or even layered with a cami for warmth until April! Is there anything this top can’t do?
