I started out to write a blog about Paraiba Tourmaline which is certainly precious and rare and I had the thought that we all have something even more precious and rare, our families. Many of us are very blessed to have a warm loving family, but just as many are either alone or estranged from family members. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of us no matter where we come from or our personal situations.
I am very blessed to have had a wonderful, loving and supportive father who passed over 25 years ago. He was my role model. I miss him very much, and not a day goes by that I don’t think of him. My Mom, who will be 93 soon, is a like the Energizer Bunny, she keeps on going and has a zest for life that is unequaled. She is already planning a spring trip to go whale watching on Cape Cod. My brother and two sisters are close friends and a powerful support group and we are all in regular contact. They have collectively given my mom three granddaughters, six great granddaughters, and one great grandson. We all get along and love and respect each other (as long as we don’t talk about politics).
I have a small close circle of very good friends and have been in a loving, committed relationship for over 32 years. I even love my job. It all sounds too good to be true, and I know how truly blessed I am.
I’m lucky enough to have a job that I love and get to work with two of my great passions, diamonds and gemstones. I do want to share a little bit about two incredibly precious and rare rings that we have coming up.
Paraiba Tourmaline is a very precious gemstone, and is believed to be 10,000 times rarer than diamonds. To put this in perspective, 2,000 tons of ore must be mined to produce only 28 carats of gem quality Paraiba Tourmaline. It is named after the Brazilian State of Paraiba and has only been located in one other mine in the world, in Mozambique. Originally discovered in 1989, the mines are now played out in both countries and it is not known if any more will ever be found. Part of our Vault Discoveries, these precious stones have been in the personal vault of the major gemstone cutter in Hong Kong since 2004.
Paraiba Tourmaline is so rare that only a miracle combination of trace elements give it this remarkable color. Described as a combination of emerald green, turquoise to sky blue, sapphire blue, indigo, bluish-violet and purple, Paraiba displays an unusual amount of fire and appears to glow intensely even when there is little light.
During Posh, on Thursday, December 10 at 8:00 PM, two incredible rings will be introduced. Both are quite limited and are real collectables. The Paraiba Tourmaline Pave Ring, J327720 is one of the most beautiful and difficult to produce rings we have ever offered. The center Paraiba tends toward the greenish-blue tones (we have never been able to offer this color) and is a minimum weight of 1.1 carats, the largest Paraiba we have ever been able to offer. It is surrounded by 1.3 carats of pave set blue Paraiba for a total of at least 2.4 carat. The contrast of tones is mesmerizing. I could go on, but you have to see it to believe it.
Our second ring (J328614 and J328615) is a choice of center stone sizes. Both rings have 1/3 carat of diamonds and there is a choice of a .70 carat center stone or 1.00 carat center stone. Remember that all of our weights are minimum weights. Both center stones have incredible color and seem to glow in any light.
To me the most important things in life are family, health, faith, and friends. Wherever you are and whoever you are with this holiday season, please remember those that are precious to you.
Take care,
Peyton
