My Journey To The Q - Part 2

After I was turned down for the QVC Hosting Job, life went on. In fact, it went on again until another special day in April 2015 came along when I was asked if I’d like to try again.  I was over the moon and I think I said yes, before the casting director even finished asking me. This time the process was a bit shorter and I started at the final callback in Los Angeles.  When I walked in the audition room, it felt so great to see the familiar faces of the QVC talent department.  Once again, I told myself to simply enjoy the journey and be grateful for the second chance.  Life doesn’t often offer a second chance, but this time it did. I decided to bring in a Yoga mat, as I’ve been in the fitness industry for many years. Once again I did my presentation and then they had me present a second product.  We chatted for a while and caught up on what I had been doing since the 2013 auditions. Quite frankly I didn’t want to leave.  I just loved being around those amazing people.  There’s a positive energy that surrounds QVC and the people who work there, and I could feel it so strongly. Nonetheless I had to leave, and once again I went about my life.

A couple weeks went by and I was once again driving to the gym (see a pattern here?

:-D), and the casting director called me.  He said, that they would like for me to come back to QVC and screen test.  Following my pattern, I had to pull over and cry, but this time tears of joy.  I just absolutely couldn’t believe I was getting to screen test…again!!

This time the screen test was two days long.  It consisted of a meet and greet, an audition, and an interview.  I thoroughly enjoyed the entire process and once again kept reminding myself to focus on the journey and release expectation of a specific outcome.  That of course was much easier said than done, but that was my goal.  I met amazing women during this process, one of whom is now one of my closest friends; my fellow host in training, Katie McGee.  As Katie and I left the two-day auditions we happened to run into each other at the airport.  We decided to have dinner together and share good conversation and a few laughs.  We genuinely enjoyed each other’s company and stayed in touch after the auditions, having no idea that we would soon become colleagues.

A few weeks after the screen test, I was having a normal day running from audition to audition and from fitness client to fitness client.  I stopped by my house for a quick 20 min recharge and I turned on QVC (I find it relaxing).  I was watching Jayne Brown sell shoes when the phone rang.  It was QVC…but this time, they offered me the job!!! Obviously, I accepted with tears in my eyes and before we hung up the phone, I said I just want to hear it one more time, because I’m afraid this could be a dream.

Now I’m here in West Chester and in training to be a host and I must say, if it is all just a dream, then I don’t ever want to wake up.  This has been one of wildest rides of my life and I wouldn’t have changed one thing about it. I’m grateful beyond words for my second chance and I hope that comes across to you at home when I am on the air.

As I said at the beginning of this blog, this isn’t to boast, but rather to encourage. I hope this gets you excited and re-energized to go for your dreams, whatever they may be. There’s no silly dream, so dream big! Thank you for taking the time to read this way too long of a blog.  I promise they will not all be this wordy.

Now let’s stop reading, follow your dreams and of course, go shopping on the Q!!

Best,

Elise
