My First Home!

by on ‎11-12-2015 12:31 PM

I finally did it! After spending all of my life as a renter, I took the plunge and bought my first house!!!

Up to this point, I considered myself a rolling stone. I was a weather woman/entertainment reporter for years, and advancement always meant moving, so my mantra has always been “I like to move in six boxes or less.” It’s an exaggeration, I know, but you get the point. Last year, though, I was thinking about how happy I am at QVC and how much I like my life here and I thought “you know what? It’s time to plant roots and get that dog you’ve always wanted.”

So, I started the search for a home. After looking at dozens of homes, and submitting five offers, I finally bought my first home (I’m sliding in to 50, so it’s probably about time!). As you know, moving is no fun. I spent five days packing (I’m getting old, so I went to bed with a sore back every night).

And it probably goes without saying, but Bailey and Olivia were no help at all!!

I had the downstairs in the new home painted. This is my color scheme (dk. blue, blue, gray, and yellow).

Here’s the stairway

It’s so funny, because after days of packing, the movers moved me in in only three and a half hours!! My first meal in my new home wasn’t fancy, but after a day of dealing with boxes it was satisfying.

Moving, for me, takes a village, so when I got overwhelmed with unpacking Alberti came over to help me arrange furniture and decorate.

Jane DeNoble and TJ demystified my unmarked fuse box, and labeled all of the switches (just imagine us screaming “the lights went off in the living room,” or “the lights just went off in the upstairs bathroom” lol).

And of course Kerstin is here all of the time (to collect me for our morning walks, and to help me make lists of what I need to do next). One of her favorite spots in the house is the exposed brick wall in the laundry room.

I still have plenty to do, but I’ve already put out two of my favorite pieces… my rotary phone, which actually works, and my old typewriter.

I’m so happy in my new home, and I can’t wait to decorate!!

@Rachel_Boesing CONGRATULATIONS!!!  Enjoy every moment of unpacking; you're on no one's timetable for getting it done.  A glass of wine, a slice of pizza, a box.  LOL  Cannot wait for the next set of photos as you progress!

How exciting!  I remember when we bought our first home.  Believe it or not, I was 19 years old at the time.  We're in our 5th home now, and we couldn't be happier.

You will find that homeownership is very different than renting.  Enjoy your home and the journey!!

"Jane DeNoble and TJ demystified my unmarked fuse box, and labeled all of the switches (just imagine us screaming “the lights went off in the living room,” or “the lights just went off in the upstairs bathroom” lol). "

That's my favorite part of this story. That and the fact that the QVC hosts really seem to be there for each other, which I love.

Congratulations for sure. You'll feel relieved when that last box of stuff is put away and you can enjoy your new digs. Gaining some financial equity also trumps a drawer full of rent receipts.

Congradulations! I am glad that you are staying as I love you on TV and when you talk about your family it sounds so cozy. Home is where you feel most comfortable and as you decorate it simply becomes yours. God Bless

Nothing like owning ur own house. Lots more room, lots of windows, light and bright. I grew up in the 1940s/50, and I studied typing and shorthand in high school - on the same manual typewriter that u have. My parents also had that same black rotary phone (that was the standard phone) - and the phone company charged extra for that every month on ur bill. Enjoy your new house. Sandy in California

So happy for you!  I was a single career woman and finally purchased my first home at age 40.  I too was so happy and I loved every minute of decorating it and planting flowers and I started to enjoy cooking.  Well, my nesting must have shown because within two years I was engaged!  Now, that was not in my plan - but it is funny the way things turn out!  I am still happily married too.  By the way, love your plantation shutters, color scheme, and hardwood floors - enjoy!

on ‎11-13-2015 12:51 AM

I wish you happiness and best of luck in your new home!  I love your color choices and decor.  And I am sure Bailey and Olivia like their new digs as well!  Love you as a host, Rachel!

Enjoy it and im sure you will change things over and over again HA. It looks beautiful and I love the colors you picked for the paint. Best of luck in your NEW HOME

Rachel, I am so HAPPY for you !!!  happy that you bought the new home but also that you are ready to take root.  its obvious you have formed wonderful bonds there.   i bought my parents home but the "moving" for me has been going through my parents things - decades of things.  i told you before about the encyclopedia, well to add to my "book table" i will be placing a very old globe. i appreciate your old phone and typewriter - very cool.   i wish you many blessings and happy times at your new home.  prayers for you !  Smiley Happy   God bless you and keep you always.

There's such a satisfying feeling walking barefoot across a floor or touching a wall & knowing "This belongs to ME!"  I'm so exceptionally happy for you. For not only buying your first cozy & lovely home but for also loving QVC enough to be able to do so.

I saw you from a distance when you were walking out of the studio building & I was walking in. I so much wanted to come over to say Hi & tell you how much I enjoy your laughter, insight & ease while presenting on the various shows. But, you were carrying a bouquet of flowers & walking with a gentleman & I felt I would intrude so I just smiled & kept walking.  knowing you'll be around with all the other wonderful Q hosts makes my heart warm. You're definitely one of my faves & I'm ever so glad you've put down those proverbial roots. Now, can't wait to see pics of that new fur baby! lol. Congratulations!!!
