Hi, there!

To celebrate the season, I asked some of your favorite hosts to share their fondest holiday memories and how they’ll spend the holidays this year. From special childhood recollections to their favorite gift, we hope their memories bring back fond remembrances of your own this holiday season.

Speaking of gifts, if you’re not sure what to give that hard-to-buy-for loved one on your holiday list, why not try a QVC gift card? It always fits and never expires. Choose from several holiday-themed plastic cards* or personalize an eGift Card. eGift Cards can be emailed within minutes**, sent at a later date, or printed and hand delivered.

Favorite holiday memory?

The Christmas tree was always a special memory. My dear father always tolerated three daughters and my mom searching for a fresh tree on a tree farm. Not only did he cut it down, he dragged it to the car and drove with it totally swallowing up our station wagon. Some years he would attach a wire and screw it into the wall. One year we came home from my grammy’s on Christmas Day and apparently a hornet’s nest in the tree came to life in the heat of our house. He had to catch them while we all stood screaming on the back porch.

When I was about eleven, everyone (with the exception of me and my dad) was sick, so we went to cut down our tree from my uncle’s farm. My dad cut the tree and loaded it onto our station wagon. When he went to pull the car out of the field it got stuck in the mud. He told me to sit behind the wheel and steer while he pushed the car. I heard him say “Gently step on the gas and steer,” but I must have floored it because I turned around to see my dad covered in mud. He didn’t even yell at me.

Our family tradition, since I was a kid, is to go to my mom and dad’s on Christmas Eve after church. Over the years we have invited friends, neighbors, and anyone in town who needs some Christmas cheer.

Will you host or travel this year?

We tend to host since having children and moving to Pennsylvania. It’s nice to have the cold weather and maybe snow. My family is in California and Florida, so it doesn’t feel as Christmasy. However, I’d love to one day spend Christmas on a tropical island.

What’s the best gift you ever received?

My first daughter’s adoption was finalized a couple weeks before Christmas. We didn’t expect it until at least March. It was a surprise and a blessing, and having her be officially mine before the new year was the best gift of my life.

Favorite holiday memory?

Picking out the cut-your-own Christmas tree with my family. My sister and I would always take such care in choosing a tree, and then Dad would cut it down, haul it out to the car, tie it down to the roof, and then set it up at home. Our job was to decorate the tree and keep it watered.

For the first time we will be hosting the big Kerr-wanza celebration for our family. It’s difficult to get everyone together around Christmas, but Kwanza takes place after the holidays when it’s easier for us to get together.

Favorite holiday memory?

Putting real candle luminaries outside in the snow on Christmas Eve, then my mom and grandma making her duck rice for dinner. The next morning, finding ribbon candy by my bedside, Santa’s magic dust in the fireplace, and eating Sara Lee coffee cake for breaky after ripping through my loot.

Favorite holiday memory?

The year my parents gifted us a camcorder. It was 1988 and now the “oldest” home video we have. I love looking back and watching those holiday memories that include loved ones who aren’t with us anymore, and remembering that, though life is wonderful now, it was beautiful then, too.

No matter how—or where—you choose to spend the holiday, I hope it’s the best ever!
