Hello, foodies...
We could call this weekend a double feature, or even doubling your cooking pleasure! We are planning two In the Kitchen with DavidSM shows - a special Saturday edition at Noon ET and our regular Sunday show at the same time. This means two different cookbooks, two different "David's Recipes," and plenty of fun, food, and great cooking tips!
Saturday's show will feature the return of Marlene Koch's Eat What You Love cookbook (F08580). This wonderful book includes over 300 recipes that are low in sugar, fat, and calories, but are full of flavor! This book has already sold thousands of copies on QVC...so be ready to order yours. You'll remember that Marlene is also the author of the best-selling 375 Sensational Splenda Recipes (F04777) cookbook.
Also on Saturday, we'll be making a Southern treat with "David's Recipe." We'll prepare Buttermilk Spoon Bread with Sausage. This old-fashioned treat is a side dish and it's similar to a pudding or soufflé. Typically, it's made plain and served with lots of butter. We're planning to add cheese and crumbled sage sausage to kick up the flavor and texture. We'll prepare it in the Temp-tations® 6-piece Oven-to-Table Set (K3449). I received this idea from a customer last week after she suggested it on my blog comments. Thanks to Gwendolyn from Florida!
Sunday's show is packed with so many fun items. "Cookbook Corner" will feature a brand-new, two-book set from Taste of Home called, The Busy Family & Freezer Pleasers (F08612). You'll find a total of 713 recipes and over 400 full-color photos. These selections are all designed to save you time and money in the kitchen. This book set is offered at a While Supplies Last Price...basically two books for the price of one. Don't miss it.
"David's Recipe" on Sunday is a seasonal treat that requires fresh berries and your refrigerator. We're making Strawberry Icebox Pie in the Technique® Cast Iron 11" Round Skillet (K24549). Cast iron is perfect for hot or cold dishes and will be just the right choice for this creamy, warm-weather treat. Strawberries have been on sale at the market. Pick some up and try this wonderful dessert.
Finally, my "Food for Thought" for this week focuses on olive oil. All olive oils are not the same. They all have different "flash," or burning, points. Extra virgin olive oil burns very easily, so it should be used for salad dressings or dips. Pure and light olive oils have a higher burning point and are best for sautéing and grilling. Follow these simple tips and you'll get the best out of your oils. See you this weekend.
Keep it flavorful!
