Hello, foodies…

The holidays are fast approaching and we all need to get everything ready for a season full of successful cooking, baking, and entertaining! This Sunday’s In the Kitchen with David is dedicated to helping you stock your kitchen and pantry with all the necessary tools. If you follow our advice, you can expect a season of successful parties, family dinners, and plenty of contented smiles!

“Cookbook Corner” will see the return of a two-book set that sold out the last time it was on air! Gooseberry Patch brings back Christmas with Family and Friends and Christmas Cookies (F08847). This set includes hundreds of recipes perfect for any holiday get together as well as all the cookies you could want or need this holiday season. Be sure to get your copies and start planning your Christmas menu!

“David’s Recipe" this week is a comfort food favorite that will warm every tummy and make you very happy on a cool and crisp day. We’re making my Chicken & Dumpling Soup. This hearty soup has a lighter broth and features tender, pillow-soft dumplings. We’ll make the soup in the Crock-Pot Designer Series 6-qt. Slow Cooker with Stoneware Vessel (K28786). It needs several hours to simmer…but the results are so worth the wait! We’ll post the recipe on QVC.com.

“Food For Thought” this week has to do with chicken stock. If your recipe calls for this wonderful and savory liquid, why not consider making it yourself? Now, you can always boil down and simmer chicken pieces in water to make it ultra fresh. Just be sure to leave the skin on the chicken while it cooks and simmers. The only hassle with this method is that you have to skim the fat off the top after cooking. The better alternative is to buy a chicken soup base in the store. It usually comes in cube form or a paste and can be located in the soup aisle. This will save you money over buying chicken stock in cans or cartons.

So, my blog question this week is inspired by my recipe selection. What is your favorite type of homemade soup? Do you like chicken noodle or do you like a cream-based soup or chowder? Let’s share our ideas and recipes with everyone in our growing In the Kitchen with David blog community! See you Sunday at Noon ET!

Keep it flavorful!
