It’s been so gratifying reading all of the feedback and encouraging comments after we debuted our Wellness Wednesday blog last week (here’s the premiere post if you missed it!) What struck me the most was how many people reached out in the comments on my Facebook page and supported each other in their efforts to live a more fulfilling life. What an incredible family and community you all are. I’m so honored to be a part.
It’s one word in that last paragraph I thought I’d focus on for a bit: fulfilling. Isn’t that why we take on the project of wellness in the first place? To make our lives better and more gratifying all around? To that end…I want to suggest we do something different.
No literally. Do something different! Stretch just a bit outside your comfort zone!
No, I’m not talking about anything way out there like jumping out of an airplane. Although there was that time Rachel Boesing and I…
But seriously. I think the effect of making just the slightest changes to our lives is underrated. Just like we can come back from an exotic vacation feeling refreshed and with a renewed look on life, we can build and sustain that new outlook by injecting just a bit of change each day. So what can you do that will mix things up?
Choose a cause that speaks to you and become an advocate of it. You don’t have to make an enormous donation if it isn’t in your budget..but you can volunteer, donate small items (get those blankets to the animal shelter!), share information on your social media. It’s so gratifying to know you’re moving the global needle in the right direction.
Pick a place you’ve never been but can’t seem to get out of your mind. Then start planning the trip now! Get excited about it even if you have no idea when or how you’ll get there! My dad is always surprising me with his spur-of-the-moment road trips to the most amazing places. He may not have known how he’d have the time to get there when he was working for 45 years at the railroad, but because he never stopped dreaming…
Of course this is still about making better choices in diet and exercise, right? So let’s start trying recipes we never have before! Get out of the same-ten-meals-over-and-over habit and experiment. It’s funny how just making one “smarter” meal can make you feel like a fancy food blogger J . I’m nowhere near an expert on clean eating, but I love trying and sharing fun recipes..here’s a few fun mason jar salads to get you started! blog link
Is there a room in your house that is rarely used? Turn it into your Zenquarters! Gabby and I hardly ever occupied our small dining room so I donated the furniture and Gabby turned it into a place for us to meditate and stretch. Odd? Maybe. Did I hestate once or twice before we did it? Maybe. Does the room get used more than it ever did before? Absolutely! Oh, Here are some yoga mats if you’re inspired.
Please, please, please revisit a crazy aspiration you’ve had but never acted on. Stop worrying about how it’s going to happen and just make a small move. Here’s me presenting a crock pot in my best friend’s living room as she filmed me on her camera. We pushed her furniture and kids’ toys aside and hung up a big roll of backdrop paper so it looked like we weren’t at her home. And I almost didn’t hit “send” to submit the audition…until my bff reminded me I had nothing to lose.
So please, if you have nothing to lose and something amazing to gain…hit “send” in your own way. Here’s me when the news I’d made it finally came in the mail. To this day I can’t believe I’m here.
No one has to know if you take a few moments each morning and reflect on the wonderful things you plan to accomplish, and give gratitude for what you have. Whether it’s in prayer, meditation, reading, or silent reflection, hit your mental and spiritual reset button in a way that feels right for you
Try a fashion twist you’ve never tried before! I’m kicking off a TSV from a certain popular shoe line..and am determined to wear whichever print is farthest outside my “norm”…check it out 12am this Thursday or here now
Life doesn’t have to be so serious all the time..and you don’t have to do things the way you’ve always done them! I’m cheering you on and would love to hear some of your ideas on how you’ve mixed things up. See you in two weeks right here!
