In ancient times diamonds were thought to be either tears of the Gods or fallen stars sent to earth to bring courage and bravery.  Today, diamonds symbolize many different things including eternity, endurance, and love.  They could be your April birthstone or you could be, as I am, a lover of sparkly, fiery, brilliant diamonds in fabulous settings.

Affinity is QVC’s brand of genuine natural diamonds.   The Diamond Day TSV is a great example of what Affinity Diamonds are all about.  Through our partnership with the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) we have strict standards of the famous four C’s; Clarity, Color, Cut, and Carat Weight.

Almost all diamonds have tiny imperfections. To a trained Gemologist, under 10 power magnification, inclusions can range from noticeable to obvious.  The color of diamonds is graded on a D-Z scale where each letter represents a range of color based on a diamonds tone and saturation.   Affinity diamonds are near colorless.   This does not refer to the rainbow of colors that you see through the top of your diamond but the body color of the diamond when viewed from the side.

To me, the most important influence on a diamond’s beauty is the cut of the stone.  Every Affinity diamond must have the three great characteristics that a beautiful diamond should have.  Brilliance is the reflection off the surface of the diamond.  Fire is the flashes of color that you see coming from within the diamond.  Sparkle, or Scintillation in diamond cutter terms, is the flashes of light and dark coming from within the diamond.   Cut can also describe the shape of a diamond, such as marquise, princess, pear, or emerald cut.

Diamonds are measured in metric carats.  The metric carat is divided into 100 points.  A one carat diamond weighs 100 points and is written as 1.00 carat.  A half carat weighs 50 points and can be written as .50 or ½ carat.  In the diamond industry, jewelers are allowed by law to round up to the nearest whole carat weight.  For example, a ring that contains diamonds weighing .97 carat can be called a one carat ring.  At QVC, we we never round up, we always give you the minimum weight.

All diamonds are not created equal, each one is unique.   You can be confident when you buy Affinity Diamonds from QVC that they are genuine and natural.
