Decorating for Thanksgiving!

by ‎11-13-2015 03:43 PM - edited ‎11-16-2015 08:57 AM

As many of you know, I love decorating for the holidays and an instant way to get your home feeling “holiday happy” is to set the table in your formal dining room.  Since this room rarely gets used, it adds warmth and cheer to the house, and also knocks a to-do item off your list as you get closer to Thanksgiving; when we will be standing in lines at grocery stores buying last minute trimmings for our feasts.

Here is a step by step on how I set my table this year! I hope you find my tips helpful and get inspired to do something similar in your home this holiday! There are plenty of photos for you to follow along, so roll up your sleeves and lets set the table together Smiley Happy

Here is my table with nothing on it.

The first thing I do is line the table with a sheet of felt from my local fabric store.  I cut it slightly larger than the table top so that it hangs with the tablecloth.  I do this to protect the wood on my tabletop, but it also adds a nice “cushioned” feeling to the table too!

Then I iron my linen table cloth and place a runner down the center.  This year I chose a navy theme with my runner and candles.  Then I wrap a garland using an “S” shape around the base of my candelabras and the place-holder for my flower arrangement.

Now it’s time to decorate the garland! This year I used grape picks, candied fruit, nuts and these retro spikey sea urchins to give color and texture to the centerpiece.

I still felt like I needed more bling, so I bought some extra nuts and spray painted them with a high polish gold paint.  This was VERY easy to do and really affordable too! (Hint: Using your hairdryer dries them off almost immediately)

Then I set out my china, crystal and silverware.  Here is a photo of the finished place setting.  I picked up these feathers at a local craft store, and love how they pull the rich colors of my centerpiece into the place setting.

The flowers that I ordered from Matlack Florist also have the feathers incorporated into them.  This arrangement was the perfect combination of my favorite flowers and elements of bounty and abundance.

Here are some different views of the table.  I think the perfect setting and arrangement should look interesting from every angle, but not identical.

Lastly, I brought all of the same elements to my buffet, and set out my vintage tea set.  The ornaments in the cloches are ones my mother gave to me years ago.  They are candied apples, pears and pumpkins – perfect for setting out during this time of year!

What are some of the elements you plan on incorporating into your holiday table scape? Let me know below.

Gorgeous, just gorgeous!! I have one question: when setting a table like this, there is no place for serving bowls/food. Do you have a buffet set up, therefore, in the kitchen or somewhere else?

I ask because I have a huge table and would LOVE to do this, but my kitchen is small (galley size) and there is NO place to set out "serve yourself" bowls/platters so it all has to go on the table, family style.

Again, LOVE how this looks. So beautiful! : )

Beautiful table!  I always add a chocolate turkey to each place setting for the guest to take home,  it looks so nice with the decorated foil.

Everything you create is a feast for the eyes, Alberti. Both the table and the buffet are exquisite! I love your choice of colors and variety of textures. Everything is beautifully intricate and formal -yet equally light and inviting.  Not so easy to accomplish. You have a good eye and a natural talent! As others have commented, you really should have your own home decor show. I'm always interested in fresh ways of decorating. Couldn't help but notice your unique silverware placement.

Just gorgeous!  I agree - you should have your own decorating show!  BUT where does your food go?

by

Fabulous!!! I so wish I could do this but unfortunately my In-laws wouldn't appreciate the fabulousness of it all. So it's paper plates while eating in front of the TV this Thanksgiving. At least the food will be good. ( I'm cooking, lol ). Happy Thanksgiving.

and this is just the kiddie table. LOL

Just kidding.  It is gorgeous. Just not practical or realistic for my family. In real life, family tends to show up and they bring their kids with them. As another poster observed: "Where do you put the food? And where IS the kiddie table?"  Our Thanksgiving is more paper plates and football. And that is all right. We give thanks for what we have and enjoy each other's company. No one goes away hungry. And no one worries one of their kids may break a crystal stemware goblet. A lot of Solo cups get sacrificed though.

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody, no matter what your table looks like!

Bravo Alberti!  Wow!   I think this is one of the most aesthetically pleasing table settings I have seen.  The gorgeous color contrast,  the beautiful forms, the flow and attention to even the smallest detail is flawless. OH...and I am obsessed with your "sea urchins".  I've been searching and I cannot find any that are as beautiful as yours.    Alberti, I think there is a place on QVC for high end design.  I am going to write a suggestion that you design products and be able to sell them to me!  Thank you for sharing your vision.  I loved it!
