Was it the fun of feeling the water hit your feet for the very first time or the sand squishing between your toes as you tried to walk? Memories of summer and the beach seem to stick with us. My parents went to the beach every year for summer vacation and I could hardly wait for that moment when I saw my Mom getting the clothes ready and my Dad packing the car. We got up early, doughnuts in the car and I grabbed my pillow as I was sure to fall asleep in the back seat somewhere along the way!

The driving seemed endless but my Mom was smart enough to include some new toys hidden under the seat when I became restless and boy was that fun! But nothing compared to arriving at the hotel...usually late at night and wanting to get in the pool right away. I could easily sneak in a good half hour of water time before it was time to call it a day.

Sleeping was not easy and before you know it….we were set up on the beach….umbrella to provide shade,  colorful beach towels, snacks and all my tools needed to build the biggest sand castle ever...or at least until high tide came in and washed it all away. Ok so that was day 1…we had a week to go! YEAH!!!!

I inherited my love of the beach from my parents, however, I am particularly drawn to water. I’m at my most peaceful self when I am setting in front of an ocean or lake and find it the most relaxing and spiritual place on earth for me. We are all connected to the earth somehow and for me…it is water. I asked my team to share some of their childhood memories and photos of their days at the beach….they are all so cute!!!!!!!!!!

What are your memories of childhood and summer vacation?

 

Maryanne (Denim & Co. Woven’s Designer): My astrological sign is Cancer, I am a typical Moonchild it looks like I was in a mood by the look on my face.

I could be happy living by the ocean, the sound of water has a calming effect on me and as a child the beach was heaven.

My siblings and I played for hours in the water, building elaborate sandcastles and sculptures, food always tasted better…and needless to say no one used sunscreen!

Katheryn (Denim & CO. Assistant Buyer): My favorite thing about the beach is hanging out with friends and family and taking naps on the beach! 

Julia (Merch Trainee Denim & Co.): Being at the beach reminds me of family time and relaxation!

 

Jennifer (Denim & Co. Knit and Sweater Designer): I like the beach because when I am there I am on vacation!!!!!!!!!!

 

Samantha (Denim & Co. Assistant Buyer): All my favorite childhood memories have come from the beach. Ever since I was little my family would ride out onto the beach and cook out all day with friends, and still to this day we try to make this a summer ritual!

Amy (Denim & Co. Assistant Designer): The best thing about the beach is relaxing and enjoying the warm weather!
