Earlier in the week, I was able to sneak in a day at our farm and say hello to our team of ducks. We have a large pond that is home-base to ducks and geese and they have it pretty good. I love the waddles and quacks; they make me smile every time. Both Joe and I enjoy our duck performances – or “pond parades” as we call them.
Our friendly feathered friends make up quite the group at the farm. The largest in the picture is a German Goose that has been with us for a few years now. He thinks he is a duck and follows the rest around. He is our gentle giant. We also have a few “teenagers” that were shooed away by their mother at their due time, but stay together and refuse to leave (I think the mother duck actually moved instead!)
Watching our feathered friends, I got to thinking; once our Mallard family at Valley Forge Flowers hatches, should we bring them to the farm? This would give them a safe place away from the people and cars here. The pond seems an idyllic place and they would be surrounded by web-footed friends. Does anyone have any thoughts and/or experience with moving a duck family? Any advice would be fantastic and appreciated!
