White pants after labor day. Mismatching bags and shoes.  Navy paired with black.

You rule breakers you. This week on Styled Out, we sported our rebellious streak and talked about our favorite fashion rules to break. [However, some of you did admit that you go by the fashion book and promptly tuck your white pants into storage at the end of Summer.]  Regardless of where you stand on the rules, one thing was clear during Styled Out this week  - there is absolutely nothing as fun as fashion.

TANK: Whitney Port I JACKET: GK by George Katsiopoulos I PANTS: Women with Control I SHOES: GILI
Rule: “You can’t mix neutrals.  You just can’t!”
Uhm. Busted.  Check out this look Stephanie was sporting during the show.  Olive and Black have never looked so good together. Love that Whitney Port tank paired with a GK by George Katsiopoulos jacket – a classic look with a dash of punk rock edge. The olive pants from Women with Control absolutely pop in contrast to the black… and those GILI shoes? Done. Dead. Finished. This look is a stunner from head to toe.

CARDIGAN: Isaac Mizrahi I SCARF: Isaac Mizrahi I PANTS: Isaac Mizrahi I SHOES: Isaac Mizrahi I BAG: Isaac Mizrahi
Rule: “1 Pattern at at time ladies, no mixing!”
Boom.  Wrong. Alisha is not afraid of mixing prints and you shouldn’t be either.  The Isaac scarf and cardigan are two different prints, however they are tonally and thematically similar and that is why this outfit works. The black crop jeans tone down the look and the shoes coordinate beautifully with the whole outfit. Just because Summer is over - it doesn’t mean we should shy away from bright colors. If you can rock it like Alisha, you can wear any color year round.

Ashley Bellman was on Styled Out this week and let us in on what fashion rules she enjoys breaking. That old rule about always having your bag match your shoes? Not necessary.

Ashley shared that she always has fun pairing different styles of shoes and bags together to create complex and amazing outfits. However, she didn’t advocate going too wild –  the emphasis being on overall coordination.  She summed it up perfect with this quote that I had to jot down:

So don’t be afraid to throw on a pair of chestnut shoes and carry a black bag – as long as they both work with the outfit.

Rule breaking aside, when it comes to outwear – classic is always king. As the temperatures drop, reality is beginning to set in. It’s time to start thinking about getting a great coat. This Linea pea coat is absolutely beautiful – warm and cozy, but stylishly structured.

Not to mention this coat is available in some fabulous colors. Feel free to pair the classic piece with some edgy jogggers or a tough ankle boot. Classic styles such as the pea coat were made to help you break the rules.

We had three big hours of Styled Out this week and the show did not disappoint. As always, it was a blast to end the work week with a lively discussion on Sandra’s Facebook page. I love reading your responses and learning about your fashion favorites. What fashion rules are you going to  break this weekend?

I for one, am going to pair a navy blazer with a nice pair of black jeans. Love breaking the rules.
