Breakfast Smoothies

August has got to be one of my favorite months out of the year to be a part of the Josie Maran team. Summer is winding down to a close, the heat and humidity on the east coast start to give the hint they may soon be departing, and best of all - the ‘end of summer’ parties on Josie’s farm!

 

The fresh Pennsylvania corn is at its sweet peak, Josie’s grill is always at the ready for burgers and hot dogs, and as a result there is always more than enough food to go around!

 

Something else always comes to mind at the end of summer too - after indulging all summer in long in BBQs and twilight ice cream trips, maybe it’s time to try to set a new regime for the whole body!

 

It isn’t hard to find incredible ingredients for both your skin and body within nature. I was inspired this week by the incredible ingredients blueberry extract and ginger root extract we use in Josie’s Argan Vibrancy Foundation Fluid. These two ingredients have wonderful benefits, so let’s take it one step further by incorporating them into delicious breakfast smoothies!

 

The first smoothie incorporates both ginger and blueberry - giving you a morning pep in your step with its zestiness! The second smoothie Josie and I created together - she’s all about the Vitamin E so we used delicious ground almonds - and almond milk- to give the smoothie double the benefits!

 

Blueberry Ginger Detox Smoothie

2 cups fresh baby spinach or kale
1 cup blueberries
½ cup Plain Greek Yogurt
2 tsp freshly grated ginger
2 tsp of honey (optional)

 

Place all ingredients in a blender, cover, and set on ‘high’ and pulse until nice and smooth.

Banana Strawberry Almond Smoothie

½ cup Plain Greek yogurt
1 sliced banana (fresh or frozen)
¼ cup almonds
1 cup frozen strawberries
⅔ cup unsweetened almond milk
1 pinch cinnamon

 

Place all ingredients into a blender and pulse on ‘high’ until very smooth.
