Recently I looked back with my middle son at my very first airing on QVC (saved on a VHS!) I couldn’t believe nearly 13 years had passed! I recall like it was yesterday, the butterflies and deer in headlights feeling when the red light came on that very first time on camera. Nothing quite prepares you for live television!
I started my career with QVC in fashion and later had the wonderful opportunity to work with our home décor team. It’s been my great pleasure to be part of the QVC family for all of these years. So when the opportunity to represent ED On Air, on behalf of Ellen DeGeneres, I couldn’t contain my excitement! And that would be putting it mildly.
My earliest design influences were my grandmother and mother. Farm wives from Iowa who had many children and little money! BUT they had tremendous imaginations and undying positive attitudes and humor. They taught me you could make something out of nothing to create a warm, unique home. They showed me how to incorporate found objects and flea market finds to replicate the inspirational looks we would tear from magazines. I knew beautiful homes could be created with a lot of imagination and a little elbow grease.
I had an immediate kinship with the Ellen DeGeneres line, ED On Air. Ellen, like me, is self taught and has a love of vintage. And we both believe everyone should have access to beautiful, affordable décor for their homes.
I first saw the ED On Air collection prior to the QVC launch. I was immediately drawn to the ED On Air dinnerware with its complimentary yet uniquely contrasting patterns and colors. Reminiscent of mismatched dinnerware with small chips I often find at estate sales and thrift stores; mixing and matching to create a truly unique family table with a history. I believe there is beauty and perfection in imperfection.
On a personal note, I share a long time great respect and kinship with Ellen, her humanitarian work and her motto, “be kind to one another.” For years I have worked with local no kill animal shelters here in Philadelphia. I have two rescues dogs, Pearl and Henry, who are my shadows.
My life’s passion is my humanitarian work. I have volunteered with our elderly military veterans, in transitional housing for homeless women and children, and most recently international volunteer work. In February I traveled alone to Nepal where I spent two weeks in orphanages and taught second grade. My ongoing personal fundraising has most recently supplied school shoes, backpacks and school supplies to a Nepal school in need. My volunteer work for them continues.
It’s my honor to come into your home each week. I’m thrilled to bring Ellen’s positive message, her wit (I can try!) and her impeccable eye for décor to you at home.
I look forward to sharing with you and would love to connect on Facebook at Amy Scaglione for QVC.
Have a beautiful summer!
Amy
