A Little History on Gold

Gold has always held magical properties for me. As a child, one of my fondest memories was going to Knott's Berry Farm in California and “panning for gold”. I remember what seemed like a gushing river of water coming out of the mountain. We were given a miners pan and were instructed to put it in the moving water, pickup some of the gravel that was on the bottom and moving through the water and shake the pan so that the heaviest rocks fell to the bottom. What was left in the pan was a miracle; it was actually real gold dust. Reflecting back after 45 years or so, I am sure it was well orchestrated but at the time I had accomplished quite a feat. The little glass bottle with that gold dust is probably somewhere in my Mother's house in Louisiana.

It is actually much more difficult to find gold in the real world. Over 30 tons of ore are extracted for a single ounce of gold. It is the perfect metal for jewelry because of its lustrous beauty, easy workability, rarity, and virtual indestructibility. Gold has been held in high regard from the earliest history. It is mentioned in Genesis 2:3 where Adam and Eve were not tempted by the “land of Havilah, where there is gold”. And of course, gold was the first Christmas gift, along with frankincense and myrrh.

At QVC, we offer many types of gold jewelry. EternaGold is exclusive to QVC and is actually the hardest 14k gold ever made for jewelry. The color is more luminous and the metal harder, resisting bending and indentations. Eternagold has a memory and was developed by our partner Leach & Garner. Ted Leach is one of the finest gentleman that we work with and is quite a personality.

Chocolate Gold is a trademarked brand here at QVC that enforces one of the hottest colors of the season. Brown is in every fashion magazine, on television shows, and on trendsetters everywhere. Chocolate brown complements every skin tone. Chocolate Gold is brown rhodium-plated 14k gold jewelry. This was first spotted at the Vicenza Jewelry Fair last year.

I love this time of year but am no where near ready for Christmas. More next week on the last minute rush.

Take care, Peyton
