AARP magazine has a piece this month  about what are just useless fads , what really works and what to not waste a nickle on. One of the items mentioned was microneedling. They said it does really work BUT the chance for getting an infection is high so you MUST be extremely careful to avoid this.

@151949@I have never tried it but I have wondered whether it could be effective. What tips did they have to avoid infection?

No tips - just the warning.

I can say that microneedling definitely does work. I've had it done by a professional but after a few times felt comfortable enough to purchase my own system and do it at home myself. Yes, it can be a bit painful but it makes my skin so plump and radiant. I would assume they are saying to be careful because the needle roller could carry dangerous bacteria if not handled properly. This was another reason I chose to do it myself with my own rolller and sanitary conditions.

I've been needling for many, many years. There is a right way and many wrong ways to do it so I encourage anyone interested to go to a professional first and see how it's done. You may find that this might not be for you but if it is then I suggest getting a book written by someone who knows how to do it safely and effectively.  Needling technique, proper treatment of skin and equipment, pre- and post-needling treatments are among the many things to consider. Knowledge about needling devices is also very important. Finding them is easy. Finding a good one, not so much and you get what you pay for when it comes to these devices.

I would suggest that you take anything AARP endorses or advises on with a large grain of salt.

You have to clean and sterilize the dermaroller.  Of course there would be risk of infection if you are not taking the right precautions and know what you are doing. That goes without saying.

This was returned as it did not work for me, at all. It left marks and abrasions andmy skin was worse. It peeled in spots for several weeks and after photographing the steps, had deeper wrinkles where I used it... Did liek the lip metal applier but the lip attachment made my lips peel and seem deeper lined!  Not for me!

I love my glo pro! but make darn sure that my needles are cleaned with alcohol after every use and my clean face has been swabbed with witch hazel.

love the results especially on my skinny  lips. I use caution with evry product I use.
