I have used Wen for 4 or so years. I have retired and spend lots of time in our country home which has well water. My grey hair which has always been the whiter kind is now having a yellow cast. What do I do short of using one of those purple lathering shampoos? HELP, please.

I really struggle with this as well, I have well water. i have not tried WEN yet. here are some suggestions for other brands.

Sally's- has a Ion brand of shampoo and conditioner for well water.

Malibu blonde has a similiar set on Amazon, and some treatments which come in little packets.

L'oreal drugstore just came out with a no sulfate set.

Target has a set called D'assnge, shampoo, conditioner, treatment

I like Aveda's purple shampoo. and D'avines. but I have tried a lot, they seem more the same than different.

the treatments can leave your hair purple.

I had a salon treatment at Ulta and left with lavender hair. the stylist "loved" it, I did not go back, it washed out. I believe it was a REdken glaze.

I hope you get some good tips! i am always fighting the yellow tinge.

I also have well water, but thankfully no problems with yellowing (yet...maybe because I'm not completely gray?). Anyway, Tea Tree is often recommended for gray/white hair because the oils in it are clear, not yellow like oils in the other formulas.

Have you tried Tea Tree?

My hair is salt & pepper with low lights. Otherwise, it is 75% gray. My hair stylist recommended Shimmer Lights shampoo & conditioner by Clairol once a week to keep my gray hair white. She advised me not to use it too often or my hair would turn purple. It has done the job. I do not have well water so can't speak to that. You can find this at Sally's for about $7.

I have had white hair since before the age of 40 - hereditary from my very handsome Dad. He had issues with hair turning yellow for hers. He bought some purple capsules - Noreen Rinse. Put a capsule into a glass of warm water and comb through the hair with a fine tooth comb. It made his hair white as snow in minutes. Inexpensive and very effective. Not sure whether it is still available, but it was a great product. Lucky me, mine doesn't yellow - yet!

My Husband uses BGT and TT, his grey/white in his hair, (he doesn't have tons) but what he does have shines like crazy with these two scents, no yellow look at all...

If you don't want to use shampoo anymore you can use one of the blue/purple

conditioners such as Aveda Blue Malva, Clairol Shimmer Lights etc.

My mom has white hair and their house is on well water that is very hard. She's been using 613 and she's quite happy with it. Her hair is really beautiful and almost completely white (little grey still in the back).

Thanks for the ideas, ladies. I do have some tea tree. Usually use it with SAM. I have some pomegranate that I'm using up currently. I tried the 613 but wasn't a fan - was glad when I finished it but maybe I didn't add enough water? Maybe I'll move back to shampoo when hubby retires. If only the white wasn't in front where I can see it!

You could install a water filter in your shower. They aren't expensive and are easy to install. Also, I've used the old style Fanciful Rinse with WEN. You put it in towel dried hair, so I put my leave in and styling crème on, towel dry my hair, then put the Fanciful on. Once I got all my bleached ends cut off I don't use it anymore, but it works fine. My only tip is it didn't work as well if I used the mousse.
