Re: Whew! Red lipstick is hard to buy

I have no desire for a red lipstick.  I lean more towards berry colors.  I have a very dark intense berry in a tube with a sponge tip that I sometimes add on top of my favorite lippe to give it more of a berry tone.  A tiny bit goes a long way on me.

Re: Whew! Red lipstick is hard to buy

In my long life the only dark or bright lipstick I ever wore successfully was a bright pink/Magenta color.  I had tried some reds, all awful, and saw that lipstick and said "I could wear that" and the clerk said "Oh no honey not that one."

She turned her back, I tried it on and she turned back around and looked shocked and laughed and said "I was SOOO wrong!"  Now later in life I could never wear that color.  When I was younger, pinks were ALL good.  Not so much now.

You're warm or cool; that's half the battle.  I look like Julia Roberts in red, so that "ain't" happening!!!

What kind of lipstick do you prefer? Long lasting, creamy, sheer, etc? I love red lippies and may be able to recommend a few that I like.💄💋💄

@rochelleS  - I prefer creamy.  Definitely NO MATTE which are usually the long lasting ones too.  Don't think cool reds are for me.  Think warmer reds may be better but not orange-y ones.  Maybe a cranberry or ones that hint at some brown?.  No real dark reds either.  My lips do have some pigment in them.  A lot of sheer shades, lip glosses don't always show up on me unless they have some punch to the color.  I have been told I am light neutral in foundation but can go cool if not too much pink.  Goodness, this sounds impossible. HAHA

@JudyL You sound a lot like me!  I'm a light/med olive cool/ neutral toned and finding the right lip shade is often a challenge.

So many nudes, corals or pinks look ghastly on me!  I have to laugh when I see a presentation here when they say a color "looks great on all skin tones"!   Or if I see something that might look promising, but it comes as a set with colors that I could never use.

I need deep berries, plums or reds that aren't too orange or too bright with blue undertones...it is not easy.  Maybe a cool red with a hint of brown but not too dark.

Have you looked at Mac lipsticks? The vast array of textures and finishes available offer just about everything anyone could want. I have a couple of delightful reds I really like. Unfortunately, I'm presently away from home and unable to access them now. One was included in the Beauty Bash box a couple years back...maybe someone else who received it can share the name for you here.

I have pigmented lips too. I love Tatcha's red tinted balm in the little pot. It definitely shows up on my lips quite nicely.  Good on its own or over another lippie. I bot mine on ebay awhile back and will check again soon for another. It's that good. Also Tatcha's Kyoto red lipstick is a to die for shade that you'd absolutely love. Leans a tad warm and is very luxe.

Also check out Yensa's lipsticks. I'd purchased a special offer trio that I really like alot. I just received an email that more colors have been added to her collection. If you're a Nordie shopper, 5x points are currently offered and available for items mentioned.

Nars makes great lipsticks as well with a good selection of texure/finishes + colors that are worth checking out. I've received sample sized gwp Tom Ford lipsticks that are really nice too. I have a couple red shades at home. I see these small sizes are on the bay if you're able to check colors at a dept store first.

I like a long lasting formula. I find that patting these matte formulas on with my finger gives a softer creamier look. I also dab a bit of gloss or balm on the side of the bullet, mix well with a brush then apply, lightens the look, texture and opacity quite nicely. Varying options of intensity with this technique really opens up your options and results for a very pretty lip.

A good lip liner, filling in your lips and topping with balm or gloss has always been a great and less costly option as well.

I used to love red lipstick, but lately, they are not working for me.

The last one I bought by MAC was Ruby Woo, the color Taylor Swift wears all the time.  It looks great on her, but....not on me.  Of course, she is young and blond and pretty and well....I'm not young or blondCat LOL

I'm thinking of trying a red gloss, but finding the right one seems so difficult.

A good red is stunning, but...I think my aging face is trying to tell me "no more."

I wore MAC Russia Red when I was a flight attendant. Now I prefer MAC Dangerous, a warmer red or MAC Chili, which has a bit of brown in it.
