does the optician suggest styles and colors he likes on you ? The optician at my doctor's office does. I appreciate his input. My friend was with me and she said she didn't think I should let him push his opinion. I think he has made good choices for me & I appreciate his opinion, after all he sees a lot of glasses on a lot of people so he should be pretty adept at knowing what style is best for what face.

@151949, No. I have never had the person that gave me the eye test pick out glass frames for me. I go to a dr. that can operate on eyes. I select my own frames trying on different styles. If I don't like any, I go to stores like Lord & Taylor & Macy's or other eye glass stores. You can even try on sunglasses and pop the glass out for your prescription lense. ![]()

Yes I have and I think it's good to have someone else opinion when choosing frames. Men especially will give you their honest opinion, it's up to you if you take his advice or not.

@Katcat1 A doctor has to do the eye exam and write a Rx for the glasses.The optican sells the glasses and properly fits them for you etc. He is an OPTICIAN - the doctor is an OPTHAMOLOGIST.

I know which frames I want, but the assistant is very helpful about showing me the different shapes of lenses that can be cut, and she has picked out some really nice ones for me.

No, most optical shops have a bunch of air headed young women working there who are clueless. I'd rather take a sensible friend with me or even text selfies of my choices to my sister for her opinion.

I agree @151949 I'd welcome his input. It's not like you have to follow his advice, but why not get his input... Where I go they'll offer suggestions if you ask but sometimes will hedge their suggestions... I guess they don't want you to bring the glasses back and blame them...

My opthalmologist examines my eyes and inputs the prescription information into their system. It's a large practice that includes an optical shop. I go into the optical shop and the technicians there help patients pick out frames. It's a business, so I'm sure they direct patients to the most expensive designer frames. I like spending money but not on eyeglasse frames. I also know what I want so I just pick a pair of frames that I like and that my pocketbook likes. However, If you like the service you get from the optician. If that works for you, stick with it. It's personal preference, there is no right or wrong.

@151949. Unless he's an optometrist
