@151949 wrote:does the optician suggest styles and colors he likes on you ? The optician at my doctor's office does. I appreciate his input. My friend was with me and she said she didn't think I should let him push his opinion. I think he has made good choices for me & I appreciate his opinion, after all he sees a lot of glasses on a lot of people so he should be pretty adept at knowing what style is best for what face.
@151949 I do not purchase my frames at my opthomologist’s office. Generally, the selection is limited. I have another location that offers great frames and yes, I do take suggestions from the people helping me.
I have a tiny face and last time could not find any frames that fit. One of the salespeople suggested trying a child’s frame...perfect!

I've been wearing glasses for almost 70 years ... I can't recall one time when anyone offered any suggestions. And ... I really don't want anyone's opinion regarding my eyeglasses!
I have definite ideas about the styles and colors of the frames I want, and I'm very specific about my lenses.

I do not need someone's opinion on which glasses look best on me. I make that decision. I know what I like.

I choose my own. Usually, someone is with me and I ask them if I've already decided! Yes, even if they don't like them, I get them if I want them. I have to push them on top of my head to see if the sides grab my hair, check them to see if they're comfortable and if they look okay. They girls who work there are usually too busy to recommend a frame. And yes, like someone mentioned, they do tend to be airheads. ![]()

The Optician is important because he/she can tell you if the frame you select will work with the your lens Rx. For instance, a rimless frame will show the edge thickness of the lenses more than a rim frame.
You will be fitted so that the frame will set on you face/nose and not be apt to slide down or dig into ears.
If you wear progressive lenses, the frames have to be a certain depth so that you have ample room for near focus.
The Optician should explain the differences in lens materials so that you can make the right choice as to thickness, weight, anti-glare, tinting and all others.

I have never had this happen; I would not mind if they did. Picking out frames is HARD.

My group practice has hundreds of frames to choose from with no prices. Very confusing. Last time I ended up in a huge hurry, grabbed a pair I loved and said I don't care what they cost, I want them. Well, to make a short story shorter, they were Gucci's, not covered by my plan, and cost me $400.00. Lesson learned, take some TIME.

Ditto ..... it's always interesting to see what they'd pick out for you. I know what I like, but am open to other possibilities.
To me, glasses are jewelry for the face, and if someone comes up with a super flattering pair, well ..... yay for me! ![]()

My optician is not an airhead - he is a very pleasant middle aged man.

Nope, I've never had that happen.
