If I were you, I would go the more natural route with essential oils & a base oil. You can Google "essential oils for Roscea" -- the natural way sometimes takes longer but you are not using chemicals at all on your face. Something to think about. Good luck.

P.S. For your facial cleanser, here are a few suggestions:

alba Botanica facial scrub with coconut milk (very gentle, hypo-allergic, vegetarian)

acure Organics = they offer washes for sensitive skin

Avalon Orgnics = CoQ10 cleanser (soap-free)

all the facial washes above are under $10 except the acure may be more (sorry can't remember) but all use gentle ingredients, mostly organic too.

I would be very leery about so-called "natural" skincare in that it often includes ingredients that are potential irritants.

From the FAQs section on rosacea.org:

Q. What skin-care products are appropriate to use with rosacea?

A. The skin of many rosacea sufferers may be sensitive and easily irritated. Patients should avoid using any products that burn, sting or irritate their skin. In a National Rosacea Society survey, many individuals with rosacea identified alcohol, witch hazel, fragrance, menthol, peppermint, eucalyptus oil, clove oil and salicylic acid as ingredients that irritated their individual cases, and many also avoided astringents and exfoliating agents. A useful rule of thumb may be to select products that contain no irritating or unnecessary ingredients.

Sunscreens or sunblocks effective against the full spectrum of ultraviolet A and B radiation can be especially important for rosacea patients, whose facial skin may be particularly susceptible to sun damage and consequent rosacea flare-ups. An SPF of 15 or higher is recommended, and physical blocks utilizing zinc or titanium dioxide may be effective if chemical sunscreens cause irritation.

I have rosacea and it's a difficult skin problem to live with so I understand. You should use gentle cleansers and skincare; I use Metrogel and began w/Clinique's Redness line. Introduce only 1 new skincare/cosmetic at a time and watch for a reaction from 1-14 days. I purchase from Nordstrom or Sephora b/c of the generous return policy. Use your Rx when you have a flare and keep an eye on what triggered it. Good luck, It can feel like a long journey.

ETA-avoid lavender, menthol, clove, rosemary oils. These can trigger a flare. Read up on rosacea; there is a wealth of information-and misinformation.

I quit using prescription meds for mine but I have a fairly mild case. I use clinique redness powder and cover when it flares up. I also use L'Occitane extra mild Milk soap (bar) for face and body. Since I switched to this bar soap, my skin hasn't flared up nearly as bad. At least it works for me.

Magnesium oil diluted might help. I noticed a difference right away. It stings at first because it ""summons"" blood to surface. But that goes away. Good luck!

I really wish I could help but I too have rosacea and am i am just frustrated with it all. I have been diagnosed by my derm who prescribed metro gel which did nothing to help. I haven't been back since because so many people on rosacea boards have said that their derms havent helped and usually made their rosacea worse. It seems like a lot of the topicals and meds they prescribe actually make it worse for many. So I really don't know what to do. Do I go to my derm and ask for help but not use whatever they suggest? But I feel like I should go for fear mine will get worse. I have had it for about 5 years. I don't know which one though. Maybe mild? I don't have papules or pustules or broken capalaries. I have the redness all the time. People talk about flare ups but my face is always red and to take matters worse I'm fair skinned. My eyes and below my eyes are white as can be and the rest of my face is red. Like I fell asleep with goggles on and got sunburned. Everyone talks about how important sunscreen is but I tan every summer because it evens out my redness. Its kinda blended and even though it still doesn't look great it sure looks better then -the I fell asleep no the sun with goggles on look. I'm currently using clinique redness solution skin care. The only thing it has done for me so far is not make it worse. No improvement. Cetaphil made my face instantly react. Which was a bummer because I like the price of it and the availability of it. I'm going to try ponds cold cream. I read some rosacea sufferers like it. I haven't worn makeup since I got it. I used to like bare minerals but it irratates it. I finally have a sephora and ulta within a half hour of me so I will see what foundation I can find their. Rosacea has really affected my self esteem. I can't wear make up but I look like I'm sun burned and not in a pretty way. So I feel people are looking ate wondering why the heck I'm not wearing make up! I would love if this thread would stay active with everyone's new skin care and make up regimens and just everyone's thoughts and ideas. Thanks for listening. And I'm on my phone so if I have a lot of errors I'm so sorry.

There was a column in our paper today were people offer home remedies.

Someone said that the original formula of Selsun Blue works great.

Sorry about that little goof! Yes I have heard of it and was just reading up on the selsun blue method of treatment. This goes with the theory of rosacea being caused by a mite. And it's suppose to kill the mite. I have been on some rosacea boards where people put it on at night and don't wash it off till morning and they basically can feel them crawling under their skin. And they will try to get away from it so they will venture to your neck and arms because the mites don't like the active ingredient in it. Some people have done this for two weeks straight and it has made them pretty sick. Temperatures and skin peeling. Weakness and nausea. And unbelievable itching. But some people have used the seldsun blue and nothing happened. I read this one guys blog while he was doing it and it scared mefrom trying it. He went to work with a swollen and burned looking face. I can't do that. But its interesting to read about it.
