I agree with artisan soaps too and I never did before.  Reading every ingredient in store soaps makes me dry and itchy thinking about it.  And of the the one or two good ingredients they are alwasy listed way a the bottom so there is not much in the product.

I will pick up a bar of Caress now and then.  lol

@newme1

you bring up a great point about the order that ingredients are listed in on the label. it usually makes a difference.  if a good ingredient is listed near the end, it means that the company put in just enough to be able to say that it is in the product. back in the day, i learned that up to the first 10 that are listed are the most important and the rest are fillers or something like that. is that what you learned?

@iwrite   I went through in college (before a lot of this "stuff" came to light) when I only trusted Ivory soap...bar soap for washing up and powder soap for washing clothing...OK for babies, OK for me. I've given up many exfoliants that had the beads/seeds that don't dissolve and pollute the water systems. Take old prescriptions back to drugstore for disposal. Ashamed to say, I used to flush them. I try to use more pure products, but in my makeup business, it's difficult to limit myself to Clean Beauty. Sometimes colors are not available and some skincare is too expensive for clients.

Yes, and its hard to find products with water not listed first.  I heard way back that when water is first its probably most oif the product.

Same thing with clothes soaps and why some brands are very inexpensive.  Water is probably 2/3 of the bottle.

@Shanus

first i want to say congrats on having your own business! ! ! !

yes, some clean products are expensive, but at least you can give your clients a choice and explain the benefits of using clean products.

Avene makes a great soap for dry reactive skin - it is really great:

XeraCalm A.D Ultra-Rich Cleansing Bar

It is really soothing. I still use some hand and body lotion sometimes, but don't really need to if I wash with this. This cleans without disturbing the skin lipid barrier.

Eucerin bar soap is similar but not quite as good, and very hard to find.

I've been using Dove soap on my body for a long time and I don't think I could get DH to switch if I tried.

For my face, Palmer's cleansing oil and Cetaphil.

I'm open to trying other soaps, but DH would gripe if I took his Dove away.

I have oatmeal goat milk soap in my shower that I use on both my body and face. I purchase it from Goat Milk Stuff and it's the best for me.

Re: What do you think abt moisturizing bar soaps?

Several years ago, my dermatologist told me to use an Unscented Dove Bar for my face and body. Maintaining a balanced ph level was key to having good skin.  I bought a bar that day and haven't used anything else for cleansing face and body since.  I've never had problems with dry skin even as my skin is changing as I mature.
