What Am I Doing Wrong With Ceramic Flat Iron?

Hi beauties - happy weekend! I recently bought a ceramic flat iron because I heard they were not as damaging to the hair, and I thought I could perhaps alternate it with my titanium iron to cut down on the stress. Well, whenever I use the ceramic iron, it seems as though my hair is not as smooth, and every once in a while I hear a snag. It seems like the titanium is better! What is the problem and/or the truth? Do I need to set the heat higher? I'm always reluctant to do that...tell me oh wise beauties! :-)
