I have tried Wen in the past and was never really wowed by it.  I was looking at the today's special and the chart underneath with how many pumps should be used.  So my issue might have been I wasn't using enough becuase I wasn't using close to that much.  I have very thick course curly hair and I read that someone with curly hair should use his 613 line.  Anyway my question is, do you use the same number of pumps with 613 as with the Wen seasonals and classics?  Thanks

@jenms40 - There is a Wen section under My Favorite Brand where the gals are so helpful.

In the meantime, I will page @Hedge to help you as I believe she uses 613 regularly.

The amount of product I used didn't change by formula, but the amount of water added did. The seasonals and 613 are much thicker than the original formulas and need more water added to distribute through the hair.

I found that the seasonals had too much protein and were too strongly scented for me. I have fine hair and loose curls and my favorite WEN formula was the Fig, with Tea Tree as the next. They were the only ones that left my hair feeling moisturized and not dry. 613 was a great one for me, but I used it as a treatment 2x a month so I didn't get too much protein. I absolutely loved it for that. Some people are able to use it more often.

I'm sorry if this is something I should know but how do you know your hair is getting too much protein?

   Hi.

Finding the right balance in protein vs moisture can be challenging.

Too much protein will make your hair feel dry. Some people reports feeling little balls/knots of protein forming near the ends of their hair when there's too much.

Too much moisture will make your hair limp, too soft, almost mushy feeling when it's wet, as the excessive moisture breaks the hair's protein bonds.

Bad results using WEN is 99.9%likely due to not enough WEN and/or not enough water.

   Forget counting pumps!

To eliminate the confusion, Chaz switched from counting pumps to just eyeballing a golfball sized amount.

Mine needs roughly 5 to 6 golfballs, three the first cleanse and three the second.

I pump this out ahead of time into two little cups, and pre-whip them with water so they spread easily through my dense hair.

Rinses out more easily when done, too.

This isn't a co-wash.

That "add a splash of water" shouldn't be taken literally.

My hair is long, coarse, and textured with curls & kinks. I can't even spread WEN across my scalp and down my sopping wet hair unless I pre-mix it with about 4 oz of hot water. This gives me the 'spreadability' I need

Once it's in my hair I add another 4oz (or more) to work it up into a frothy, foamy, drippy cleanse.

Rinse and repeat with the 2nd cleanse.

Take your time. Let the hair drink in the Wenny richness.

Curls need a lot of moisture, but don't always need 613.

613 is as rich and moisture giving as a Remoist treatment, but it also adds protein which you may not need.

Customize the amount of protein by mixing 613 with other formulas that have less.

To add moisture without adding that much protein, go for Classic Fig.

How much do you use for a leave in?  I see the chart says 6 to 8 pumps for course hair, I assume thats the 16oz right?  Thank you for your help.

Personally, for leave in I like 2 full pumps (quart size) of Cleansing Conditioner plus 1squirt of treatment oil.

   Or

An equal size amount of Remoist plus the oil.

Picture it like this:

The water in your hair escorts the leave-in treatment and moisture into your hair.

If your hair isn't wet enough, your leave in will dry onto the outside of the hair shaft rather than being escorted inside.

If that happens your finished dried hair will feel acky-dirty, because, yeah, your dried leave-in is coating the outside of it, and not absorbed into it.

(See...im explaining how some of those negative reviews happen.)

Wow - seems like so much trouble to wash hair.  Pumps vs golf balls vs how much water to add.

I agree.

Hair washing shouldn't be a science experiment where one has to find out via trial and error to find out what works.

First wash 2 pumps of scent 1 & 5 pumps of scent 2.

Second wash 1 pump of scent 3 & 4 pumps of scent 4.

Leave in - 1/2 pump of scent 5.

In order to figure out what works, one needs to buy all of the scents.

Slick there Chaz.

Very, very slick.
