I don't think there's just one single thing to do, but rather the entire skincare routine altogether that helps up to achieve success in our skincare. Enlarged pores are pores that have gunk packed in them (dead skin cells and sebum). The more gunk that gets packed in, the larger, more visible they become. Everything starts with thorough cleansing (look for a good cleansing oil, but you can also do a second cleanse with a gentle foaming cleanser), use a good toner (Thayers is good), exfoliating (Missha Super Aqua Oxygen Micro Peeling OR Cure Natural Aqua Gel) and masking a couple of times a week (lots of good sheet masks or clay masks out there), and the proper treatment products all contribute to achieving the desired result. Prescription Retin-A isn't for everyone, but many like it. Also, if you are interested in trying an Asian product, Skinfood's Peach Sake Pore Serum gets a lot of positive reviews.

I know exactly what you mean. After 53 I noticed large pores on my forehead and have tried a number of products. I have seen the most improvement with Paula's Choice newer product Weekly Retexturing Treatment 4% BHA. This is the only product that I noticed did improve things. The 2% BHA did not. I also tried a new product recently by Dior - it is a moisturizer in the Hydra line but it is specifically for Pores. I got a sample at Sephora and really like it. It is not yet available in department stores yet. I also like L'Oreal's pore vanisher.

I use TTO on my nose and the pores are really small now probably because they are not congested. I also use my clarisonic once a day to keep my face clear and help keep the pores cleaned out. The Skinfood Peach Pore Sake is very good for hiding the pores. You can find samples on ebay.

I think Retin A has done more for my pores than anything. They certainly haven't shrunk but they don't look as pronounced after six months of Retin A use.
