Re: Vicks VapoRub (long post)

@x Hedge  I like the smell of eucalyptus too.  I almost bought a bag of eucalyptus bath salts the other day, then decided not to spend the money.  Now I'm thinking about it again.  Smiley Very Happy

Re: Vicks VapoRub (long post)

@Dazlin, the instructions on Vicks VapoRub have changed over the many decades. (You'd be nuts to follow some of the 'tips' in OP but it was fun reading them.
Vicks NO LONGER RECOMMENDS placing a dab in each nostril or on the lips , or letting a lump of it melt on the tongue.
It's still great on chest & back for congestion. I cover it with 2 t-shirts, then slide a heating pad (on LOW only) between the 2 shirts.

[ Edited ]

I  found my blue jar.  It's old but about half full.

It has the good active ingredients:

camphor  4.7%

menthol   2.6%

eucalyptus oil 1.2%

Sure smells great.

Gosh, now I'm remembering finishing up my last glass jar, and moving on to plastic. Boooo!!

It smelled even better in the blue glass, I swear!

Re: Vicks VapoRub (long post)

@mistriTsquirrel: Ah, misunderstood. No issues with ants in the house so knowing that's what you meant it makes sense.

Hubby and I have been trying to figure out best way to make sure they move on without harming the environment.

As I said sprinkling cinnamon works really well but of course they pop up a few feet away. Buy big jars of it at Costco.

Since we worry about killer bees around here I noticed several bees flying into one of my shrubs. Didn't know if they were the killers but doused the bush with the cinnamon and out they flew. Not many of them luckily. They tried going back in for a while but then gave up and moved on.

Re: Vicks VapoRub (long post)

@beach-mom, thanks for posting this.

The formula has changed significantly, and those old 'home cures' have been around for ages and are for the original Vicks. But I enjoyed reading them.

BTW, there's a warning on my label about heating VapoRub, exposing it to microwaves, etc.

I'm sorry your Beauty thread was hijacked and turned into a pest control chat.

@x Hedge  Putting it near my eyes wouldnt be a wise move as far as I'm concerned.

Still use Vicks for chest congestion and relief.
