@SilleeMee Mineral sunscreens are way better nowdays.  I have had to use them for many many years.  Avobenzone simply eats me up.  I cannot wear it and it is in everything now, but I started wearing mineral ones before it was common.

@Sooner

I just want to find one that doesn't make me look ghostly. My skin tone is not fair or not medium but naturally tan in color. I'm part Asian so my skin color makes it difficult to use tinted anything. The color is usually off on me. I'd rather use untinted so hopefully that Cerave mineral ss will do as they say. Fingers crossed.

@SilleeMee I am having good luck with CeraVe and Elta tinted ones--the light or the medium CeraVe seems to work well although they are a little more glow than I'd like.  I have odd skin.  I almost always wear next to lightest color, neutral, and for some reason have had great success with Asian brands being more neutral.

So many USA foundations are either too yellow or too pink for me and don't blend in with my color at all.  Since I am old, it's gotten worse rather than better .  .  .  Woman Sad

@Sooner Not looking for anything tinted since I will be sharing it with my other half and I do not want anything that resembles old fashioned zinc oxide

Whatever you do DON'T USE SUPERGOOP!

My granddaughter used it on a recent vacation and got a terrible sunburn on her face and her skin looked like leather!

@I am still oxox Not sure a male couldn't wear any of these because they do not look like foundation, however they do come in non-tinted.  Lots of mineral sunscreens now do not look like the zinc oxide of days past.  I wear them, and my husband also loves them because they look great and are so good to protect your skin.

I wouldn't write them off because of the good old days.  Depends if you want a more dewey or matte look in which of these would be best for your needs.  Read reviews of them and that should give you a good idea.

Re: Vacation Sunscreen

[ Edited ]

Most of you will want to kill or call me crazy.  I was born in Manhattan, then Long Island for just a few years.

Dad got a job and off our family went down to Miami Beach where I was raised and schooled until today - still in Florida.

I have never used sunscreen as I can't stand grease, it made me break out and to end this story I guess I'm a vampire.  Kidding, but I always wear a hat and avoid the sun as much as I can.  Blond, blue eyes,  very fair skinned.

I did just have a skin cancer a year ago, my first, but it was the only one.  I do not have one wrinkle on my chest, neck, etc. anywhere. Skin is smooth as a baby.  You northerners should see how some women look.  They are fried! Not me and it is scary.  Guess that's why I got out in my early 20's.

Yet still alive.  Good money maker for sure that SPF business. NAH for me. They do push alot of scary  junk on us and dangerous I might add......

@Pink123 I had a friend when we lived in Brooklyn who was younger than I am but her face looked like an alligator purse

I just had a memory of what I think was my first week in Club Med Cancun ever. I had a perm at the time and came home so dark my Mom did. not recognize me in the airport. This was around 1983

UV radiation gets reflected off of the ground/water and off of the objects around you whenever you are outdoors. So even if you wear a hat or use an umbrella or sit in the shade, the UV will still get to you indirectly. You don't have to be under direct sunlight to get sun damage. It's reflected back at you whenever you are outside.  A cloudy sky means nothing. UV goes through clouds, too. Sun damage is cumulative and the sun is the main cause of skin aging.
