Re: Using retinol all year round...Manuela says don't?

Wow, rough comment on Manuela and her skin. She is not a "paid spokesperson, like fake Dr. P uses.(I just saw a TV clip of him branching off to making "bikini's. It was a WHOA moment for sure).

She is a chemist, a cosmetic chemist, and she owns the company. She is known globally, so her credibility is nothing to sneeze at.

I would like to hear what she said in the context of her whole conversation, not just one line. Manuela and her husband know their stuff, from the birth of a cell to becoming skin. She probably explained "why" she said that.

I don't dislike Manuela and I believe she is credible, but the last time she was on ShopHQ she did not look like a good spokesperson for her products.

The Retinocin 45 system sold on HSN is only used twice a year.

Really? I think she looks fantastic! Can't wait for my Isomers kits to arrive. She is active on facebook, so maybe someone can pose this question to her on facebook?

I think as long as you are using it with a sunscreen or at night per the products recommendations you are fine to use it year round. I wonder what the context of the comment was (aka what was she trying to sell)

Re: Using retinol all year round...Manuela says don't?

I have no problems with using .15% retinol (AH) all year round. If anything, those with oilier-type skin may find it more beneficial to use in summer v. winter. Retinol will help balance an oily skin.

What I'll skip in summer a lot of times is moisturizer at night, and sadly, that means my nightly facial.

I've watched Manuela hardly at all, and so I wouldn't know why she might have said that. I myself don't like interrupting things too much. I still want my skin to turn over gently in summer just as in all the other months.

Current studies are showing retinol does not cause photosensitivity like tretinoin (retin-a). Really good info here - see Myth #5. (I confirmed info with my dermatologist, who is a skin cancer specialist. )

Never heard of that. I use Retinol nightly except when I look a little dry, I will skip. Haven't tried anything of Isomers.

Re: Using retinol all year round...Manuela says don't?

I know some dermatologists also recommend that their patients stop or limit their use of retinol in the summer months. There are a few that I have gone to that recommend that, believing it is just safer overall considering that many who use RA and retinols, do not either religiously apply sunscreen or don't use adequate amounts of it. I don't know if they will change their stance on that if the studies on retinol and the sun become more widely accepted.

I am guessing that Manuela might be suggesting a summer time hiatus for the same reason. As a very knowledgeable skin chemist, she might feel that the risk outweighs the benefits. And she may change her views too as more becomes widely accepted about retinol vs the sun.
